<p>Alan and Amy Meltzer donated $5 million for American University’s new athletics center in 2019, according to a Sept. 23, 2019, announcement on AU Athletics’ website. And they donated $10 million in 2022, according to a July 26, 2022, announcement on the Change Can’t Wait website. </p><p>Alan Meltzer said the new center, named after him and his wife, adds more space for student athletes of all kinds. Some student athletes said the new center has freed up other athletic facilities but want more access to this space due to the closures to the Jacob’s Fitness Center.</p><p><br>This episode was reported and produced by Katherine Marisa Alvarez, DJ Springer, Ritika Schroff, Stevie Rosenfeld and Josh Nagy-Koechlin.
