he has broken my bones; <sup>5</sup>he has besieged and enveloped me with bitterness and tribulation;  (Lamentations 3:4-5, ESV)</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="15"><span style= "font-family: Symbol;">·</span>       <strong>He is</strong> <strong><u>TRAPPED.</u></strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"> <sup>6</sup>he has made me dwell in darkness like the dead of long ago. <sup>7</sup>He has walled me about so that I cannot escape; he has made my chains heavy; (Lamentations 3:6-7 ESV)</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="15"><span style= "font-family: Symbol;">·</span>       <strong>God isn't answering his</strong> <strong><u>PRAYERS.</u></strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"> <sup>8</sup>though I call and cry for help, he shuts out my prayer; <sup>9</sup>he has blocked my ways with blocks of stones; he has made my paths crooked.  (Lamentations 3:8-9, ESV)</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="15"><span style= "font-family: Symbol;">·</span>       <strong>It feels like God is</strong> <strong><u>ATTACKING</u></strong><strong> him.</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><sup>10</sup>He is a bear lying in wait for me, a lion in hiding; <sup>11</sup>he turned aside my steps and tore me to pieces; he has made me desolate; <sup>12</sup>he bent his bow and set me as a target for his arrow. <sup>13</sup>He drove into my kidneys the arrows of his quiver; (Lamentations 3:10-13, ESV)</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="15"><span style= "font-family: Symbol;">·</span>       <strong>No one</strong> <strong><u>RESPECTS</u></strong><strong> him.</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"> <sup>14</sup>I have become the laughingstock of all my people, the object of their taunts all day long. <sup>15</sup>He has filled me with bitterness; he has sated me with wormwood.<span style= "font-family: Arial;">"  "</span><sup>16</sup>He has made my teeth grind on gravel, and made me cower in ashes; (Lamentations 3:14-16, ESV)</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="15"><span style= "font-family: Symbol;">·</span>       <strong>He has no</strong> <strong><u>PEACE.</u></strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><sup>17</sup>my soul is bereft of peace; I have forgotten what happiness is; <sup>18</sup>so I say, "My endurance has perished; so has my hope from the Lord."<span style="font-family: Arial;">" (Lamentations 3:16–18, ESV)</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><strong>2) But there is always</strong> <strong><u>HOPE!</u></strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style= "font-family: Arial;">"</span><strong><u><sup>21</sup></u></strong><strong><u>But</u></strong> this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:</p> <p class="15"><span style= "font-family: Symbol;">·</span>       <strong>God's love and mercy are still there in the</strong> <strong><u>BAD TIMES.</u></strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"> <sup>22</sup>The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; <sup>23</sup>they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="15"><span style= "font-family: Symbol;">·</span>       <strong>Even if I lose everything – I still have</strong> <strong><u>GOD.</u></strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">  <sup>24</sup><span style= "font-family: Arial;">"The Lord is my portion," says my soul, "therefore I will hope in him."</span> <sup>25</sup>The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. <sup>26</sup>It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="15"><span style= "font-family: Symbol;">·</span>       <strong>A little suffering is</strong> <strong><u>GOOD</u></strong><strong> for me.</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"> <sup>27</sup>It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.<span style= "font-family: Arial;">" (Lamentations 3:21–27, ESV)</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><strong>3)</strong> <strong><u>BOTH</u></strong><strong> are true, not one or the other.</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style= "font-family: Arial;">"</span><sup>31</sup>For the Lord will not cast off forever, <sup>32</sup>for, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love; <p class="MsoNormal" align="center"><strong>Life Lessons from Jeremiah</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal" align="center"><strong>Pt. 10: Playing the Long Game</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal" align="center"><strong>By Louie Marsh, 7-5-2026</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><strong>The Setting…</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style= "font-family: Arial;">"</span><sup>1</sup>The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar. <sup>2</sup>At that time the army of the king of Babylon was besieging Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard that was in the palace of the king of Judah. <sup>3</sup>For Zedekiah king of Judah had imprisoned him, saying, "Why do you prophesy and say, 'Thus says the Lord: Behold, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall capture it; <sup>4</sup>Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him face to face and see him eye to eye. <sup>5</sup>And he shall take Zedekiah to Babylon, and there he shall remain until I visit him, declares the Lord. Though you fight against the Chaldeans, you shall not succeed'?"<span style= "font-family: Arial;">" (Jeremiah 32:1–5, ESV)</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><strong>1) God's plans often seem</strong> <strong><u>IRRELEVANT.</u></strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style= "font-family: Arial;">"</span><sup>6</sup>Jeremiah said, "The word of the Lord came to me: <sup>7</sup>Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle will come to you and say, 'Buy my field that is at Anathoth, for the right of redemption by purchase is yours.' <sup>8</sup>Then Hanamel my cousin came to me in the court of the guard, in accordance with the word of the Lord, and said to me, 'Buy my field that is at Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for the right of possession and redemption is yours; buy it for yourself.' Then I knew that this was the word of the Lord.<span style="font-family: Arial;">" (Jeremiah 32:6–8, ESV)</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="15"><!-- [if !supportLists]--><span style= "mso-list: Ignore;">· </span> <!--[endif]--><strong>Jeremiah</strong> <strong><u>TESTS</u></strong><strong> the Word of the Lord.</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="15"><!-- [if !supportLists]--><span style= "mso-list: Ignore;">· </span><!--[endif]--><strong>God promises</strong> <strong><u>FAILURE.</u></strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="15"><!-- [if !supportLists]--><span style= "mso-list: Ignore;">· </span><!--[endif]--><strong>In the midst of national destruction He's looking at</strong> <strong><u>LAND</u></strong><strong>?</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><strong>2) Whether it makes sense or not – I must</strong> <strong><u>OBEY,</u></strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style= "font-family: Arial;">"</span><sup>9</sup><span style= "font-family: Arial;">"And I bought the field at Anathoth from Hanamel my cousin, and weighed out the money to him, seventeen shekels of silver.</span><span style="font-family: Arial;">" (Jeremiah 32:9, ESV)</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="15"><!-- [if !supportLists]--><span style= "mso-list: Ignore;">· </span> <!--[endif]--><strong>Practice</strong> <strong><u>UNLIMITED</u></strong><strong> forgiveness.</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style= "font-family: Arial;">"</span><sup>21</sup>Then Peter came up and said to him, "Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?" <sup>22</sup>Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.<span style= "font-family: Arial;">" (Matthew 18:21–22, ESV)</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="15"><!-- [if !supportLists]--><span style= "mso-list: Ignore;">· </span><!--[endif]--><strong>Love my enemies, not just</strong> <strong><u>TOLERATE</u></strong><strong> them.</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style= "font-family: Arial;">"</span><sup>43</sup><span style="font-family: Arial;">"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'</span> <sup>44</sup>But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, <sup>45</sup>so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.<span style="font-family: Arial;">" (Matthew 5:43–45, ESV)</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><strong>3) If I don't understand it</strong> <strong><u>TALK</u></strong><strong> to God about it.</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style= "font-family: Arial;">"</span><sup>14</sup><span style="font-family: Arial;">'Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Take these deeds, both this sealed deed of purchase and this open deed, and put them in an earthenware vessel, that they may last for a long time.</span> <sup>15</sup>For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Houses and fields and vineyards shall again be bought in this land.'<span style="font-family: Arial;">" (Jeremiah 32:14–15, ESV)</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style= "font-family: Arial;">"</span><sup>23</sup>And they entered and took possession of it. But they did not obey your voice or walk in your law. They did nothing of all you commanded them to do. Therefore you have made all this disaster come upon them. <sup>24</sup>Behold, the siege mounds have come up to the city to take it, and because of sword and famine and pestilence the city is given into the hands of the Chaldeans who are fighting against it. What you spoke has come to pass, and behold, you see it. <sup>25</sup>Yet you, O Lord God, have said to me, "Buy the field for money and get witnesses"—though the city is given into the hands of the Chaldeans.' "<span style= "font-family: Arial;">" (Jeremiah 32:23–25, ESV)</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="15"><!-- [if !supportLists]--><span style= "mso-list: Ignore;">· </span><!--[endif]--><strong>All of God's plans are</strong> <strong><u>LONG TERM.</u></strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="15"><!-- [if !supportLists]--><span style= "mso-list: Ignore;">· </span><!--[endif]--><strong>It all comes down to</strong> <strong><u>TRUST.</u></strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style= "font-family: Arial;">"</span><sup>3</sup>Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases.<span style= "font-family: Arial;">" (Psalm 115:3, ESV)</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><strong>4) Never forget, God plays the</strong> <strong><u>LONG GAME.</u></strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style= "font-family: Arial;">"</span><sup>36</sup><span style="font-family: Arial;">"Now therefore thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning this city of which you say, 'It is given into the hand of the king of Babylon by sword, by famine, and by pestilence':</span> <sup>37</sup>Behold, I will gather them from all the countries to which I drove them in my anger and my wrath and in great indignation. I will bring them back to this place, and I will make them dwell in safety. <sup>38</sup>And they shall be my people, and I will be their God. <sup>39</sup>I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their own good and the good of their children after them. <sup>40</sup>I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them. <p class="MsoNormal" align="center"><strong>Life Lessons from Jeremiah</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal" align="center"><strong>Pt. 9: Living God's Plan</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal" align="center"><strong>By Louie Marsh, 6-28-2026</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><strong>1) The historical setting:</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style= "font-family: Arial;">"</span><sup>1</sup>These are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the surviving elders of the exiles, and to the priests, the prophets, and all the people, whom Nebuchadnezzar had taken into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon. <sup>2</sup>This was after King Jeconiah and the queen mother, the eunuchs, the officials of Judah and Jerusalem, the craftsmen, and the metal workers had departed from Jerusalem. <sup>3</sup>The letter was sent by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. It said: (Jeremiah 29:1–3, ESV)</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><strong>2)</strong> <strong><u>HOW</u></strong><strong> does God want us to live?</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">  <sup>4</sup><span style= "font-family: Arial;">"Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the exiles whom I have sent into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon:</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="15"><!-- [if !supportLists]--><span style= "mso-list: Ignore;">· </span><!--[endif]--><strong>Settle down & live a</strong> <strong><u>PRODUCTIVE</u></strong><strong> life.</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"> <sup>5</sup>Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat their produce.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style= "font-family: Arial;">"</span><sup>23</sup>Know well the condition of your flocks, and give attention to your herds," (Proverbs 27:23, ESV)</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="15"><!-- [if !supportLists]--><span style= "mso-list: Ignore;">· </span><!--[endif]--><strong>Live a</strong> <strong><u>NORMAL</u></strong><strong> life, focus on the future.</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"> <sup>6</sup>Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage, that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there, and do not decrease.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style= "font-family: Arial;">"</span><sup>28</sup>And God blessed them. And God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it…(Genesis 1:28, ESV)</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="15"><!-- [if !supportLists]--><span style= "mso-list: Ignore;">· </span><!--[endif]--><strong>Be a</strong> <strong><u>BLESSING</u></strong><strong> to your culture.</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"> <sup>7</sup>But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style= "font-family: Arial;">"</span><sup>12</sup>so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one." (1 Thessalonians 4:12, ESV)</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="15"><!-- [if !supportLists]--><span style= "mso-list: Ignore;">· </span><!--[endif]--><strong>Don't let false prophets</strong> <strong><u>PROFIT</u></strong><strong> off of you.</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"> <sup>8</sup>For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Do not let your prophets and your diviners who are among you deceive you, and do not listen to the dreams that they dream, <sup>9</sup>for it is a lie that they are prophesying to you in my name; I did not send them, declares the Lord.<span style="font-family: Arial;">" (Jeremiah 29:1–9, ESV)</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><strong>3) God's promise – for us or Israel or both?</strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style= "font-family: Arial;">"</span><sup>10</sup><span style="font-family: Arial;">"For thus says the Lord: When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will visit you, and I will fulfill to you my promise and bring you back to this place.</span> <sup>11</sup>For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. <sup>12</sup>Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. <sup>13</sup>You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. <sup>14</sup>I will be found by you, declares the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.<span style= "font-family: Arial;">" (Jeremiah 29:10–14, ESV)</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="15"><!-- [if !supportLists]--><span style= "mso-list: Ignore;">· </span><!--[endif]--><strong>God has good plans for us- a</strong> <strong><u>FUTURE</u></strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><sup>11</sup>For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future...   (Jeremiah 29:11, ESV)</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="15"><!-- [if !supportLists]--><span style= "mso-list: Ignore;">· </span><!--[endif]--><strong>There is hope but only in</strong> <strong><u>CHRIST.</u></strong></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><sup>11</sup><span style= "font-family: Arial;">… and a hope.</span> (Jeremiah 29:11, ESV)</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style= "font-family: Arial;">"</span><sup>3</sup>Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!
