Tekken 6 vs Tekken 8 — Which Game Was Actually Harder?
Was Tekken 6 actually harder than Tekken 8? Or do we just remember older Tekken games as more difficult?
Tekken 6 demanded precise movement, Korean backdashing, combo execution and an enormous amount of matchup knowledge. But Tekken 8 brings its own challenges through Heat, offensive pressure, fast decision-making and complicated defensive situations.
So which game genuinely requires more skill?
In this RooseXP documentary, I compare Tekken 6 and Tekken 8 to explore what makes a fighting game difficult — and why harder execution doesn't automatically mean a higher skill ceiling.
🥊 In this video:
• Why Tekken 6's movement could be difficult to master
• Korean backdashing and execution requirements
• Tekken 6's Bound combos and punishment
• The knowledge barrier of Tekken 6's huge roster
• How Tekken 8's Heat system changes decision-making
• Why defending under pressure can be mentally exhausting
• Whether older Tekken games really demanded more skill
Tekken 6 wasn't perfect. Its damage, Rage system and difficult matchups could be incredibly frustrating.
And Tekken 8 isn't an easy game just because it places more emphasis on aggression.
The real difference might be the type of difficulty each game demands.
Tekken 6 often tests how well you can control your character. Tekken 8 often tests how quickly you can process what's happening.
But which challenge do you think is harder?

Tekken 8 Rewards Aggression… But Is That a Problem?
Tekken 8 rewards aggression. But has the game gone too far in encouraging players to attack?
With Heat, offensive pressure, chip damage and constant momentum shifts, Tekken 8 can make defending feel more exhausting than attacking.
But does that mean aggression is too powerful? Or has Tekken 8 simply changed what it means to play good defence?
In this RooseXP documentary, we explore why Tekken 8 feels so aggressive, how its mechanics influence player behaviour, and whether patience and defensive decision-making still feel as rewarding as they should.
🥊 In this video:
• Why aggression isn't necessarily a bad thing
• How Tekken 8's Heat system changes offensive pressure
• Why defending can feel mentally exhausting
• The difference between passive and active defence
• How Tekken 6 and Tekken 8 reward different playstyles
• What Tekken 8 could do to make defensive decisions more satisfying
Tekken 8 still rewards movement, punishment, adaptation and defensive skill. And aggressive players absolutely need skill to succeed.
The real question is whether the balance between offence and defence creates the most satisfying version of Tekken.
For me, Tekken is at its best when attacking and defending both feel meaningful.
Do you think Tekken 8 rewards aggression too much? Or is its faster, more offensive direction exactly what the series needed?
Let me know in the comments.
