It's the system, not the people

In this episode, we're talking systems. Shannon takes us through some of her earlier career, from child passenger safety to community building and organsiational development, exploring how the same underlying questions have shaped her work and why changing people isn't always the same as changing outcomes. Interested in working with us at Social Responsibility & Change CIC? How Racism Learned to Sound Reasonable

This Substack Essay is the basis for this conversation. You've heard it all before: We just want the best person for the job. But what lives underneath that? In this episode, we examine Sociologist Eduardo Bonilla-Silva's 4 frames of colourblind racism. Shannon takes you through each lens one by one, exploring different scenarios you've likely heard before. She invites you to engage with the systemic questions that live inside each frame. Shannon also offers her own reflection that she doesn't always get it right. There is active learning involved from us all. We hope you find this episode engaging, and if you need support, Social Responsibility & Change CIC is here to help.
