The next generation Silverado HD and Sierra HD are getting an entirely new 8.3 liter Duramax turbo diesel V8. It's something that's been rumored for a long time. It's apparently actually happening. GM has given the internal nickname to the project, or at least the marketing nickname, the Mongoose. Why Mongoose? Well, Ford's 6.7 liter Power Stroke diesel is internally known as the Scorpion, and GM's teaser video literally shows a Mongoose attacking a Scorpion. Subtle. The current GM Duramax is a 6.6 liter V8 making 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. […]
