Talent Isn't the Problem - Why Your Team Isn't Taking Ownership
In this episode of the Leader's Conscious Communication Podcast, I use the story of two rowing boats to explore why talent alone doesn't guarantee teamwork.
Discover how unclear expectations, excessive control, and poor communication can undermine ownership—and how leaders and employees can build greater trust, responsibility, and collaboration.
Because success isn't about who rows the hardest.
It's about moving forward together.
I want to thank Erika Schoen for sending me the picture of the two rowing boats, titled “Talent Isn’t the Problem — When Ownership Is Missing,” which inspired today's episode. The image also carries the name Cicely Simpson.
It's a wonderful example of how a simple image can lead to a much bigger conversation about leadership.
Thank you for sending it!
Please keep sharing your ideas, questions and suggestions for future episodes.

YOU DON’T NEED A TITLE TO LEAD But you do need to know when to follow
What happens when everyone wants to lead — but nobody wants to follow?
We often encourage people to step up, take initiative and challenge authority. But knowing when to step back, support someone else's decision and let others lead may be just as important.
In this episode, I’m joined by Coach Ed Bradley, who brings over 20 years of experience in education, mentoring and leadership.
Together, we explore the difference between leadership and dominance, initiative and interference, and why being a good follower doesn't make you a weak leader.
You'll discover:
Why leadership isn't about always being in charge.
How to recognise when to lead — and when to follow.
What young and emerging leaders often misunderstand about leadership.
When challenging authority is necessary — and when it's time to support a decision.
Because real leadership isn't about being in control. It's about knowing what the situation needs from you.

When leaders get too close to their message - Why Clear Communication and Credibility Begin With the Audience
The closer you are to your own message, the harder it can become to see how others actually receive it.
In this episode, I speak with Evan Boyer, founder and CEO of Leaders PR, about why expertise alone doesn’t create credibility—and why clear communication starts with understanding your audience.
We explore resistance to change, trust, transparency, communicating under pressure, and the fine line between adapting your message and manipulating your audience.
You’ll discover how to step outside your own message, see it through your audience’s eyes, and communicate in a way people can actually understand and trust.
Because communication is not only about what you want to say. It is also about what the other person is able to receive.
