Sacred Ground is for men who feel deeply but learned to hide it and for those in relationship with them. Licensed therapist Robbie Watterson offers weekly reflections on soul work, seasonal wisdom, and the inner journey modern men rarely talk about. Drawing from wilderness therapy training and leading men's circles in Golden, Colorado, Robbie speaks to anyone navigating the complexity of masculine emotional depth. This isn't clinical advice or motivational content, it's medicine for those ready to stop hiding and start healing. New episodes weekly.
Coming Clean — A Reckoning With What We Take, What We Wound, and What We Owe
A woman sat across from me and said it quietly." Men are disgusting." I didn't defend it. I let it land.
In this episode of Sacred Ground I'm going somewhere most men won't. Into the pain of what has been taken from women across lifetimes. Into the ancestral grief that lives in the body before memory begins. Into the mother wound underneath the behavior. Into what it means to be a man who witnesses all of it without looking away.
This isn't a defense. This isn't an attack. This is an honest reckoning. With what we take, what we wound, and what we owe.
For the women who have carried this. For the men who are ready to understand why. For anyone sitting in the wreckage of what happens when two wounded people try to love each other.

Nobody Taught You How to Be a Man. And You're Still Waiting for Permission.
There's an ache underneath everything, the feeling that you're making it up as you go, that you missed something everyone else got, that you're waiting for someone to look you in the eye and say "you're ready." Modern men didn't get initiated. No elders, no ritual, no clear marking of when boyhood ended and manhood began. Just mixed messages, performance metrics, and the expectation that you'd figure it out alone. This week I talk about what we lost when we stopped initiating men, what that absence costs, and what self-initiation actually looks like when nobody handed you the map.
Topics: men's work, initiation, rites of passage, masculinity, elders, mentorship, purpose, self-initiation, modern manhood, depth work

The World Is on Fire. Here's How to Stay in the Game Without Burning Out.
The world is loud right now, things are being revealed, emotions are rising, and people are done being passive. But if you're a man who feels deeply, you're absorbing ALL of it. The anger, the grief, the fear and it's pushing you outside the one thing that determines how you show up: your window of tolerance. This week I talk about what's actually happening in your nervous system when the world feels like this, how to know when you're burning out vs. staying grounded, and how to expand your capacity so you can stay in the game without losing yourself. Real men's work for a world on fire.
Topics: men's emotional work, window of tolerance, somatic awareness, nervous system, collective grief, letting go, capacity building, depth work, men's mental health

What You're Not Saying is Killing Your Relationship
The things men don't say to protect, to avoid conflict, to keep the peace are the very things creating distance in relationships. This week, I explore why emotional withholding feels like protection but becomes poison, what actually happens when you speak your truth, and why your partner wants your depth, not your armor. Real relationship medicine for men and those who love them.

The Myth of Independence: Why Men Need Other Men
"I should be able to do this alone." This belief is killing men. In this episode, I explore why the myth of masculine independence leaves us isolated, what actually happens in sacred masculine space, and why being witnessed by other men is medicine we can't manufacture on our own. If you've been doing this work solo, this is your invitation to something different.
Topics: men's circles, brotherhood, male loneliness, men's groups, masculine community, isolation, men's mental health, sacred masculine space

Grief as Gateway: What We Gain When We Let Ourselves Feel Loss
Grief isn't just sadness, it's the doorway to deeper capacity. In this episode, I share from my own experience with profound loss and what I've learned about grief as teacher rather than enemy. For men who've been taught to "move on" or "stay strong," this is an invitation to let grief crack you open instead of shut you down. What becomes possible on the other side of feeling everything?
Topics: grief, loss, men and grief, emotional depth, men's mental health, processing loss, masculine vulnerability, soul work

What Your Body Knows That Your Mind Won't Say
Your body is holding truth your mind keeps avoiding. For men who've learned to live from the neck up, this episode explores somatic wisdom—how to listen to what's below conscious thought, why the body doesn't lie, and simple practices for reconnecting to physical sensation as a compass for truth. Drawing from my wilderness therapy training at Naropa, I offer a different way of knowing what's real.

Sacred Anger vs. Destructive Rage: Reclaiming Masculine Fire
Men are taught that anger is either bad or the only acceptable emotion. What My Mother Saw Before I Learned to Hide
A conversation with my mom about what she saw in me as a boy, what gets lost when men learn to perform, and what she wishes more men knew. The Exhaustion of Performing: Why Men Hide Their Depth
I feel everything so deeply, but I learned a long time ago that nobody wants to see that. So I just... hide it. But I'm exhausted from hiding." This week, I explore the core wound so many men carry—learning that feeling deeply isn't safe, that sensitivity is weakness, that we have to perform strength instead of feel it. Where does this come from? What does it cost us? And what becomes possible when we finally stop performing?

The Winter Effect: Understanding Your Season (Men's Mental Health & Masculine/Feminine Energy)
Welcome to Sacred Ground, a podcast for men who feel deeply and those in relationship with them. In this inaugural episode, I introduce the show and explore the Winter Effect: what it means to be in a season of slowdown, and how to know if that's actually your season right now. Just because it's winter doesn't mean you're meant to rest, you might be in a season of growth, and that's equally valid. I weave in masculine and feminine energy, share what this season has taught me about letting go and saying no, and offer reflections on trusting your own rhythm instead of forcing someone else's timeline.
Topics: men's mental health, masculine energy, feminine energy, seasonal cycles, setting boundaries, saying no, soul work for men, men's therapy, personal growth, emotional intelligence for men
