Saint Michael’s House is a podcast to help you pray. We provide guided meditations on a different subjects connected to the Christian life and how to grow closer to God.
We want to help you prayer ”better” - by this we mean, to pray with more love, attention, and generosity.
We take much of our inspiration from the teachings of the Carmelite saints and mystics as well as many other saints of the Catholic Church who have offered wisdom and example to the rest of us on how to have a living relationship with the Lord.
The Healing Power of the Holy Face: Miracles & Mercy
This sermon focuses on miracles that have occurred connected to the devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus, tracing the tradition from St. Veronica’s veil to the 19th-century devotion of Leo Dupont.
It shares accounts of miraculous healings connected to holy oil which has burned before images of the Holy Face, testimonies of cures and conversions, and calls listeners to approach Christ with sorrow for sin and confidence in His mercy.

The Transfiguration and the Holy Face: Mary’s Lesson for Lent
This episode reflects on the Transfiguration and the Blessed Virgin Mary’s perfect fidelity: while the apostles received a moment of heavenly light, Our Lady lived by faith through the humility of the Incarnation and the sorrow of Calvary, teaching us to offer our fasts, prayers, and sufferings as reparation to the Holy Face.
Rooted in the tradional Catholic practices of Lent, the sermon invites listeners to follow Our Lady’s example of obedience and love, to fix their gaze on Christ through suffering, and to trust that the cross borne with her leads to uncreated light and eternal glory.

Into the Desert: Christ’s Victory Over Temptation
This episode opens the sacred season of Lent by recounting Christ’s forty days in the desert, where he fasted, prayed, and endured three temptations.
It explains the symbolic meaning of forty and how the three temptations represent the enemies of the soul—the flesh, the world, and the Devil—and shows Christ’s faithful responses to each.
The sermon urges the faithful to practice prayer, fasting, and almsgiving as means of purification and cooperation with grace, warning against seeking human praise or presuming on mercy.
Listeners are invited to enter the desert with Christ, repent, be transformed, and rise with him at Easter, with a final invocation of confidence in the Blessed Virgin’s intercession.

Gazing at the Holy Face: Reparation as Love
This sermon invites us to gaze upon the Holy Face of Jesus, to recognise his suffering and respond with reparation born of love.
It points to St. Joseph as the first adorer and protector of Christ, urging small acts of devotion—holy hours, reverent Mass attendance, patient sacrifices—as ways to console Christ and help heal his wounds.
Keeping our eyes on the face of Christ gives strength in trials and calls us to let his wounded mercy transform our hearts until we behold him face to face.

St. Lawrence: A Testament of True Treasure and Sacrifice
This episode delves into the extraordinary life of St. Lawrence, one of Rome’s revered deacons, who exemplified the Church's mission by prioritizing the poor and needy. As we recount his final act of defiance against the civil authorities, discover how St. Lawrence revealed where the Church's true treasures lie.

Tackle the temptation of spiritual pride and embrace humility as you examine the grace that enables all good within us, acknowledging it as a divine gift.
Join us to gain deeper insights from Father Gabriel of St. Mary Magdalene and St. Teresa of Avila, inspiring us to be generous and service-oriented, placing God at the core of our lives, just as St. Lawrence did unto martyrdom.

The Holy Face of Jesus and the Beauty of Our Lady
In this episode, we reflect on the significance of the Transfiguration and its impact on the faith of Peter, James, and John, as they witnessed the divine glory of Christ on the mountain. We explore how the vision of Christ's transfigured face served as a spiritual anchor during the trials of faith, illustrating the eternal contrast between earthly suffering and divine glory.
The episode further delves into the profound symbolism of our Lord's Holy Face as revealed to Sister Mary of St. Peter. This devotion is portrayed as a spiritual weapon against the adversaries of the Church, emphasizing the strength gained from embracing the divine presence even amidst worldly challenges.
Additionally, we honor the Assumption of Our Blessed Mother, recognizing her as a beacon of grace and a refuge for believers in times of spiritual warfare. Her Immaculate Heart and radiant face are assurances of her maternal protection in all our battles.

Feast of St Elias
"If the Lord is God, serve Him"
The Prophet St Elias is Father of the Carmelite Order. On Mount Carmel, the People of Israel were shown the power of Almighty God as St Elias called down fire from heaven demonstrating the falsity of the idol worshippers.
The strong influences of the pagan and demonic forces at work in our own time try to pull us away from the path of the Gospel so each day a decision has to be made: "If the Lord is God, serve Him"

Every hair on your head has been counted
When things are looking bad and we are tempted to be anxious or lose our peace, the Lord reminds us that He knows us better than we know ourselves and that He cares for every aspect of our lives. We are called to trust, not pretending that nothing is wrong, but trusting in our God who we know is all-powerful, and all-loving.
