Sam takes on AI challenges in software engineering
In this episode of Sam takes on the world, Sam discusses the challenges associated with AI, and in particular generative AI, and the growing fears of job displacement. Software development is in a strange place right now. Developers still love building things, solving problems, creating open-source tools, and seeing their work make a real-world impact—but burnout, technical debt, increasingly complex tech stacks, and concerns about job security are creating a very different side of the industry.
In this episode, I take a look at the paradox facing software developers today, including how AI is changing the way we work, why AI tools can sometimes increase rather than reduce workload, the challenge of maintaining legacy systems, and the pressure to constantly learn the next new technology.
But despite all of that, there’s still something special about building software. The creativity, autonomy, community, and satisfaction of solving a difficult problem are powerful motivators. So where is software development headed, and what keeps developers passionate about it in the age of AI?

Sam takes on church hurt
Church hurt is real—and it can leave lasting pain, disappointment, anger, and even cause people to walk away from the church altogether.
In this episode of Sam Takes on the World, Sam talks openly about church hurt, including his own experiences with it. He explores why hurt happens within the church, the role of human nature and imperfect people, and the difference between acknowledging our pain and allowing that pain to control our lives.
Sam also dives into forgiveness versus reconciliation, the importance of healthy boundaries, understanding the root of our hurt, and trusting God to ultimately deal with the things we cannot fix ourselves. He reflects on what it means for pastors and church leaders to truly shepherd people, listen to those they lead, and put the spiritual health of the congregation ahead of policies, platforms, and personal agendas.
Most importantly, this episode is a reminder that forgiveness doesn’t mean pretending the hurt didn’t happen or giving someone unlimited access to your life. It means releasing the right to retaliate and trusting God with the outcome.
If you’ve experienced church hurt—or you’re trying to understand how to move forward from it—this conversation is for you.
