About Saturday Service - A Faith and Football Podcast
A podcast all about Faith and Football from the Lifestreams Churches in Southend on Sea, England. Join us every week as we explore our guests football journeys and how their spirituality has impacted their attitudes to the beautiful game.
For this weeks edition I was blessed with the company of Tom Amos who is the Youth and Young Adults Ministry Leader at The Community Church Bishops Stortford. He is also the founder and manager of Community Church Stortford FC who compete in the Chelmsford and District Churches Football League.
Tom has had a fascinating journey, so it was a delight to recount his past and the influence it had on his football ministry. From his early days at Portman Road, his inspirational Youth Leaders, his time studying at the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry and his first foray into Church football whilst studying Theology at Durham University, it's safe to say he has led an interesting life!
He was instrumental in the formation of Braintree Area Churches Together (now Braintree Churches United FC) and followed this up by forming his second team Community Church Stortford FC where he is manager to this day. I also remembered to ask an actual proper football question and sneak in a reference to Con Air.

John Boyd
Having enjoyed our break last week and suitably filled with half time oranges, I am delighted to welcome our latest guest John Boyd who is Director of Football at Sunderland Samba FC alongside being a Learning and Develop Officer at The Methodist Church.
Sunderland Samba FC was formed over 25 years ago growing out of the youth work of the Sunderland Methodist Circuit, now finding itself a registered charity. The organisation seeks to provide football, volunteering, coaching, youth work and international exchange opportunities, seeking to promote racial and religious harmony in the community.
They also work further afield, with their Women's team based in Kenya competing in the FKF National Super League (the second tier) and empowering young women through business start-up micro-loans and football career support.
We also discussed the changing needs of the community and the galvanising effect Sunderland AFC's recent success has had on the City.

Nathan Faulkner
For this latest episode I was delighted to be joined by Nathan Faulkner who is Chairman of the Coventry and District Church Football League and manager of Division 1 side CLM FC.
At the time of recording we were mere hours from the opening day of the Premier League season and with Nathan being a lifelong Coventry City fan, it was the perfect time to discuss the fall and rise of the team and the manner in which it impacts the community.
A keen footballer, his playing days began at Meredith Road Baptist Church FC before the formation of CLM FC where he has been player-manager ever since. He is also Chairman of the League and it was great to hear about the fostering of respect, community and fellowship amongst its teams and players.
He also spoke of the power of faith in his life, how it helps him manage anxiety and informs his intentions in his various roles.
