I Want This for Me: Does Your Purpose Have to Be Selfless?
[EP 41] Have you ever felt like your dream needed to be about serving other people in order to be worthy of pursuing? For years, I’ve heard coaches and people in the industry say: do it for them, focus on the value, detach from what you want, connect to a purpose bigger than yourself. And I’ve tried. I’ve found the noble reasons. But they’ve never been what *truly* drives me. I was ashamed of that.
After finishing a 90-day challenge and recovering from a trip, I found myself struggling, needing motivation- that’s when I had to admit something I’ve been judging myself for: I want this for me. I want the expression, freedom, fulfillment, success, and the chance to see what I’m capable of. Helping other people through my work matters—but it isn’t the main reason I want it. In this episode, I’m questioning why that feels so shameful, and whether wanting something for yourself really makes you any less deserving of having it.
