Kingdom Business and Job Creation in Kampala's Slums | Episode 010
Emmanuel Trinity grew up in a Kampala slum, was recruited into a gang at nine, and was rescued at 13 by missionaries who asked what it would take for him to never go back. His answer was a computer. That computer led to faith in Christ, a design career, and a paid internship that moved his family out of the slum. Six months later, he walked away to build something for the friends he left behind.
On this episode of Scaling What Matters, Matthew Rohrs talks with Trinity, Founder and Chief Job Creator of era92 Group, about the difference between spiritual and economic poverty, why imposed solutions fail, and the vision behind 100,000 skilled jobs in Uganda.
KEY TAKEAWAYS:
➡️ Lasting transformation addresses both kinds of poverty. Trinity found new life in Christ at 13, but it took a paying job to move his family out of the slum.
➡️ Imposed solutions erase initiative. Programs that decide for people what they can do, like making beads or soap, overlook God-given gifts. era92 asks young people what they aspire to first.
➡️ Environment shapes belief. era92 builds high-quality hubs outside the slums because it is hard to believe you can serve a global client while surrounded by the conditions you are trying to leave.

Inside The Village Formula With Joram Mwinamo
Most of the world celebrates winner-takes-all entrepreneurship. Joram Mwinamo, co-founder and CEO of SNDBX in Nairobi, built something different: a business model rooted in East Africa's communal culture. In this conversation with Matthew Rohrs, Joram explains the "village formula," a collaborative approach that's now expanding to Atlanta and the UK, and what it can teach the rest of the world about building businesses that lift up the people around them.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
➡️ East Africa's communal traditions, like chamas savings groups, are a working model for collaborative entrepreneurship, not just cultural tradition.
➡️ SNDBX's "village formula" attracted interest from the UK and Atlanta not through marketing, but because the model solved a real problem.
➡️ A new generation of African entrepreneurs is building with a global mindset from day one, reversing the usual direction of business influence.

What Happens When Africa Stops Selling Itself Short
Africa produces the coffee, the gold, and the tea the world depends on, but almost none of the profit stays where it's grown. In this segment, Joram Mwinamo, Co-founder of SNDBX, explains why value addition, not raw exports, is the real key to unlocking wealth and dignified jobs across the continent, and why he's optimistic about the next 40 years.
KEY TAKEAWAYS:
➡️ Nearly 90% of a commodity's final value, like coffee, is created after it leaves the country of origin, leaving producers with a fraction of the profit.
➡️ Ghana's law requiring local gold processing helped make it one of the fastest-growing economies on the continent.
➡️ Diaspora remittances are now the largest source of foreign capital flowing into many African economies.
