Forgiveness – What's Holding My Heart Hostage?

Forgiveness is one of the hardest commands in Scripture—especially when the wounds run deep. In this episode of Scripture Adventures, we explore what biblical forgiveness really is (and what it isn't), why Jesus described unforgiveness as a debt, and how carrying unresolved hurt can quietly shape our hearts, our words, and our relationship with God.

Together we'll look at the difference between forgiveness and trust, why healthy boundaries are biblical, and how the Gospel gives us the freedom to release what we've been carrying.

Today's Hidden Treasure:

Because Christ released my greatest debt, I can choose to release the debts others owe me.

Key Scriptures

Matthew 18:21–35

Matthew 6:14–15

Colossians 1:13–14

Colossians 3:13

Romans 8:1

Proverbs 4:23

Ephesians 4:31–32

1 John 1:9

Free Bible studies, podcast resources, and more are available at StacyTassinMinistries.org.

A quick audio note: You may notice my volume fades slightly in a few places during this episode. I'm aware of the issue and am working to identify the root cause with my recording equipment. For now, you may just need to turn me up a bit in those sections. Thanks for your patience while I get it sorted out!

Why God Cares About the Way We Communicate

Why does God care so much about the way we communicate?

In the first full teaching episode of Season 5, we're asking one simple question:

How does God's Word change the way I communicate when the world teaches me to argue, defend, and divide?

Together we'll dig into Matthew 12, James 1, and Ephesians 4, discovering that biblical communication isn't just about choosing better words—it's about allowing Christ to transform our hearts.

This episode is a little longer than usual because we're taking time to slow down and study three foundational passages of Scripture. My prayer is that you'll walk away encouraged to let God's Word shape not only what you say, but the heart from which your words flow.

Scripture Studied

Matthew 12:33–37

James 1:19–20

Ephesians 4:17–32

Walk It Out This Week

What do my words reveal about the condition of my heart?

Am I listening to understand, or listening only long enough to respond?

Will my words leave this person carrying grace or carrying wounds?

You'll find additional Bible studies, podcast episodes, blog articles, speaking resources, and more at StacyTassinMinistries.org.

Grace note: During the James 1 discussion, I accidentally said "quick to hear and quick to speak." James actually writes, "quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger." Sometimes my excitement gets ahead of my words! Thanks for extending grace as we continue learning and growing together.

Ruth: The Choice We Keep Avoiding

We've all stood at a fork in the road and just... not chosen. Called it discernment. Called it patience. In this episode, Stacy opens Season 5 with a fresh look at the book of Ruth — not through the lens several teachers use, but through Ruth's actual character: her bravery, her loyalty, her hard work, and her compassion.

In this episode:

Stacy's three-question method for studying Scripture — what it meant then, how it connects to the rest of the Bible, and what it means for us now

The choice Ruth made, and the roadblocks we build in our own lives to avoid making ours

What it means to walk in faith as a daily posture, not a one-time feeling

A brief look at the kinsman-redeemer, and what it points to in Christ

Scripture referenced: Ruth 1–4, Proverbs 2:4, Proverbs 31

Connect with Stacy: Want to go deeper than this episode?
