<p>After gifting his mom something for Mother’s Day that he knew she would tell him to use himself, Juan Catalan ended up at an LA Dodgers game that may not have ended up with a home team win, but just by attending, he would end up the biggest winner of all. Eastern Airlines Flight 401 - Part II
<p>Suzie’s back for the conclusion of Eastern Airlines Flight 401 which means you should be back too!! When we left off, Flight 401 had drifted so low to the ground that by the time anybody in the cockpit noticed it was too late. Captain Loft powered up the engines and turned the jet left, intending to head back toward Miami International Airport but the left wing clipped the ground and the state-of-the-art jet tumbled across the Florida Everglades as a ball of fire ripped through the fuselage. Eastern Airlines Flight 401 - Part I
<p>A late night short-haul flight from JFK to MIA on December 29, 1972 started off smooth with no expectations that when it touched the ground not only would it NOT be at the Miami International Airport, but it also wouldn’t be in any place where a commercial jumbo jet should be landing at any point. Take off and the entire duration of the flight all the way to Florida ended up being completely uneventful as the seemingly brand new Lockheed L-1011 Tristar jumbo jet carried passengers and crew south from the cold temps in NYC to a much warmer south Florida. Many passengers were either headed home after the Christmas holiday or were flying down to ring in the New Year just a few days later. Not a single soul on board the flight that evening would have known the danger that lurked ahead of them which ultimately stemmed from the malfunction of a small but extremely important indicator light.
