Before the swords clashed at Badr, three men stepped forward to face three of Quraysh's champions in a duel that would open one of the most pivotal battles in Islamic history. Hamza, Ali, and Ubaydah ibn al-Harith stood against Shaybah, Utbah, and Al-Walid; and the encounter ended with both swift victory and painful sacrifice.
