The people who benefit from you putting yourself last do not want you to listen to this podcast.
I'm Desiree Rew, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and Self-Care*ish AF! The Podcast is where we tell the truth about why self-care keeps failing women and what becomes possible when you stop waiting for permission to choose yourself.
Because the takers, the narcissists, and everyone who has ever depended on your exhaustion to fuel their comfort are counting on you not to figure this out.

Fear's Got on a Pretty Dress: The Six Stages of Changing Back to You
This episode is about change, because you cannot talk about self-care, self-respect, or self-preservation without it. Change is the work. It's the messy middle. And the fear of it is the biggest thing keeping women from getting back to themselves.
Getting back to the you who existed before the unwritten rules.
I walk you through all six stages of the change model I was trained on as a clinical social worker, in plain language, with examples of how each shows up in real life.
I tell you the truth about my own messy middle, including what the hater section sounded like when I went vegan and why I stopped letting doubt be my engine.
If you've been waiting for perfect conditions, hear this: they aren't conditions, they're a guarantee that never arrives. The change you keep scheduling for January started the moment you said something has to change.
Your freedom is yours. Your power is yours. None of it requires permission from the outside.
The one question I leave you with: how long do I have to wait, and why can't I start now, in a very small way?

Pull Up a Chair and Meet Louwana Ball
Twenty-five years ago, I sat down in her chair in Charlotte, North Carolina. She did my hair. We fell out in the same church pew. She sold me my first dream home. She watched me launch my first business. And in the years we were not in direct contact, she was still in my corner, cheering from the porch.
That is what a Feeder looks like. And she is my first guest this season.
Louwana Ball is the founder of Lou Ball & Co. and what she calls a CEO identity architect. She has run multimillion-dollar operations, started over more than once, and arrived somewhere far more powerful than any title: a life built around alignment instead of achievement.
This conversation goes deep. She walks through the journey from corporate accounting to hair school to real estate to a balcony in Jamaica where stillness cracked something open that hustle never could. She talks about what it costs to chase things that do not match who you are, the difference between ambition as identity and ambition as one piece of a whole person, and why the only thing missing in her recipe was her.
This is Episode 3 in the flesh. This is what the right person in your circle looks like over a lifetime.

The Friends Who Feed You
Last episode I talked about the wires. This week we go into one of the most foundational ones: who you are letting into your life and what it is actually costing or feeding you.
I am sharing the science behind why the people in your consistent circle are reshaping your brain whether you realize it or not, walking you through the Arthur Brooks research on friendship and happiness that I have been wanting to talk, and giving you the Friend Inventory, a mental sort for your circle that does not require a single hard conversation this week. We also get into trauma bonds in friendship, and what it looks like when you are hiding your wins from the people who are supposed to be your people.
This one is going to sit with you. Clear your schedule for the drive home.
