About Senior Trip: Your Rest Stop on the Caregiving Journey
Caring for a loved one isn’t a straight road, it’s a winding journey filled with laughter, heartbreak, exhaustion, and grace. Whether you’re a seasoned caregiver, just starting out, or somewhere in between, Senior Trip is your rest stop. Hosted by Todd, a registered nurse with decades of experience in senior care, and his daughter Leisl, a storyteller and caregiver in her own right, this podcast is a space for honest conversation about the caregiving journey. Through real stories, practical tips and moments of reflection, we invite you to join us and remember that you’re never walking it alone
Caregiving can be demanding, but sometimes small changes in how we care can make the journey a little easier for everyone.
In this episode, we’re talking about practical ways caregivers can find moments of relief within everyday caregiving. A predictable routine may help your loved one feel more secure while making your own day more manageable. Activities you genuinely enjoy doing together can provide meaningful engagement while reducing boredom and restlessness. A nap might become a chance to take a few quiet minutes for yourself. And sometimes, relief means asking someone you trust to sit with your loved one so you can step away for an hour or two.
Not every break has to be a vacation, and not every solution requires adding something else to your already-full plate. By looking for routines, activities, support, and small opportunities to recharge, you can create a caregiving experience that works a little better for both of you.
You may not be able to change the road you’re traveling—but you can sometimes find a more peaceful way to travel it.

S1 Ep26: Fuel for the Journey
Caregiving asks a lot of us, and it can be easy to put our own needs at the bottom of the list. But caring for yourself isn't taking time away from the person you love—it's part of what allows you to keep showing up for them.
In this episode, we're talking about self-care for caregivers: recognizing when you're depleted, making room for your own physical and emotional needs, accepting help, and finding realistic ways to recharge when simply "taking a break" isn't always possible. Self-care doesn't have to mean a vacation, a spa day, or adding one more thing to your to-do list. Sometimes it's about small choices that help you keep going.
You can't travel very far on an empty tank. Taking care of yourself is fuel for the journey.

S1 Ep25: Meet Them Where They Are
When dementia changes a person's understanding of the world around them, insisting on our version of reality isn't always helpful—and sometimes it can cause unnecessary confusion, fear, or frustration. In this episode, we talk about what it means to share your loved one's reality: letting go of the need to correct details that don't matter, responding to the feelings behind what they're saying, and choosing connection over being right. Because sometimes the kindest way to travel alongside someone is to meet them exactly where they are. 💜
