SK Koki N - in sequence series014 - Foward, not away
After some time away from releasing, this episode felt right to return with. Recorded in one sitting, then revisited with distance — judged as if it belonged to someone else. What remained was respect: for the selection, the patience, and the intention behind it. Inspired by years of listening, learning, and unlearning, this mix is a quiet nod to influences that shaped my ear from as far back as 2011 although i've been collecting and listening for years before 2011. That year had a lot of influence — particularly the sound and selections of Uni Dgeoff. Not to replicate, but to acknowledge a lineage, while allowing space to arrive at my own voice.Although those early references no longer sound the same today, the spirit remains: patience, depth, groove, and intention. This episode became a reminder of why I still buy records, why I still enjoy the process, and why 2026 feels like the right time to gently evolve the In Sequence sound. There’s movement here — kick, bass, and groove — but always with a journey in mind. Music for friends, strangers, and shared moments: a month-end Saturday, a car wash gathering, a house party that slowly opens into something deeper. Fun without being careless. Dance without losing thought. This is not a departure, but an expansion. A continuation in sequence journey — forward, not away.

SK Koki N - in sequence013 - Archives Part 2
Archives Part 2…as Ipromised another chapter from the past unearthed from the crates of 2012. 59 minutes of raw, unpolished sound — a mix that wasn’t meant for the world, but for discovery. Each track selected by instinct, each transition a moment captured in time. This mix, like Part 1, is a message from an earlier self. A glimpse of where the journey started, the frequencies that shaped my path, and the energy that carried me forward. Now preserved as it was — unfiltered, unrefined, but entirely alive.Welcome… to In Sequence Archives Part 2. SK Koki N - in sequence012 - BBB Music Demo
Before In Sequence… before the episodes… there was this. Back in 2013, I was chasing visions that felt bigger than me. I remember putting together a 36-minute demo, meant for Skindeep at BBB Music. I was laser focused with my mixing and timing…probably rehearsed twice before finally recording it. May 9, 2013 — I uploaded it to SoundCloud, not knowing who would ever listen. It was more than just a demo — it was me sending out a signal, saying: ‘This is what I sound like. This is where I’m headed.’ Today (16 August 2025) I Just logged in on my account more than 15 years later and I've just found it there (there's 2 of them, both were private and not visible to public, may probably upload the 2nd one too). Looking back now, it feels like a message in a bottle. A piece of the journey that shaped what would later become In Sequence, because i got radio silence from him and that birthed In Sequence Series.. where i felt i would just tell my stories from with music. So here it is — preserved as it was. A demo, an archive, a vision from the past. SK Koki N – Demo for Skindeep at BBB music. 2013.

SK Koki N - in sequence011 - Because I can
Yo, welcome back to another episode of In Sequence. I’m your host, SK Koki N. This one right here… is called ‘Because I Can.’ No deep explanation—just a reminder to move with purpose, trust your instincts, and do what feels right… because you can. So wherever you’re listening from—Joburg taxis, Cape Town coffee shops, or late night drives—this one’s for the ones who move unapologetically. Let’s lock in. Sometimes you don’t need a plan. Just a vibe, a beat, and a reason—‘cause you woke up today, and that’s enough. People ask me, ‘why do you do this?’ My answer? Because I can. Because music speaks when words fall short. Because this—right here—is freedom. If this mix hit something in you, if it moved your mood even a little, remember: You don’t always need permission. You don’t have to explain every move. Sometimes… just doing it is the reason. Do it with love. Do it with passion. Do it like it’s the last time. Because you can. I’m SK Koki N. You’ve been riding with In Sequence. Until next time—stay real, stay fluid, and move in silence. Peace. Mostly, apologies on the end of the mix and midway in when I mixed a wrong side of the record, quickly had to fade it out again. Enjoy

In Sequence Series - Special Edition004 - Shane Moyce AKA Soulscentric
Shane started collecting music in primary school. Both parents were musicians so music was constantly playing at home. Record collecting started in 1985, R&B, Smooth Jazz, Disco & 12 inch Singles. In 1991 he landed a residency at a Night club in Downtown Jozi called Harlem Shuffle. The first taste of a big crowd moving to his every beat. Life took a different turn in the following years with Shane venturing into a trade as a mechanic. Work took on the main focus & being a Dj took a back seat. In early 2000’s the music bug bit in a Deep way, the 12 inch vinyl collecting resumed & in no time Shane was back in it. Purely through his unique taste in music he developed relationships with Dj’s at the record stores he frequented. These relationships lead to bookings for gigs around Jozi from Soweto, Kagiso, Voslorus, Mamelodi & Tembisa. A pub called Hippo’s Place in Tembisa proved to be the top venue he enjoyed playing at, Friday, Saturday & Monday nights. Shane then became a regular on lineups at a weekly event called Delectable Sundaes at Shikisha in Newton Jozi. He found himself playing alongside brilliant local & international Dj’s...the likes of Harrel Salcoh boss of then Soul Candi, Clive Bean, Dj Ady, Lino, Dj Claude, Dj Duzy, Dj Fingers, Kid Fonque, Vinny Davinci, Dacapo, Oscar P & Charles Webster to name a few. In the past 10 years Shane has assumed the role as mentor to a number of young up & coming Dj’s & producers alike. Guiding & sharing his vast experience & knowledge of the dance music scene. In 2009 Shane met up with a band Meat The Veggies from Kagiso which seen life long relationships formed with Tiko. Bongani & Sol Stringer. This collaboration gave birth to his Stage name “ Soulcentric”. Collaborations which followed brought Deep house & Afro Kitchen Jazz together to create something special & unique which captured the attention of many music lovers. To this day their collaborative sets remain in demand. Look out for upcoming live colabs with Sol Stringer & Tiko. Shane has also become a regular feature on Bestbeatstv platform. Check out his most recent live mix on Bestbeatstv page on Facebook. In 2018 Shane was offered a weekly show on a Canadian online radio station Deep Roast Radio, which he called Deeper Horizons. 2 hour mixes were the standard this seen him attain international recognition for his unique track selection, sequencing & mixing. He now provides mixes for numerous podcasts around the globe.

SK Koki N - in sequence010 - I Hate Written Records
There’s something deeply special about vinyl records — the warmth, the crackle, the tactile connection to music that digital just can’t replicate. But I have to say: I really hate written records. What do I mean by that? Well, a record is more than just a physical object — it’s a piece of art, a collector’s treasure, a carrier of sound and story. So why do some people write or mark their names on records? And then, worse, sell them second-hand with those markings still there? Imagine buying a second-hand record, excited to spin it and make it your own… only to find someone else’s name scrawled all over the sleeve or the label. Suddenly, that record belongs to someone else — or at least it feels like it does. It’s like inheriting someone else’s memories or history without the choice to erase or rewrite it. This is why I truly respect DJs that keep themclean, “In Sequence010 – I Hate Written Records” more like a tribute to the purity of vinyl culture. On this set I'm celebrating raw, unfiltered house music — filled with warmth, texture, and that beautiful imperfection that comes from spinning real vinyl. Enjoy

In Sequence Series - Special Edition003 - Mahal (Japan, RHR/ Deep Explorer/ Inner Shift)
**Mahal (Japan, RHR/ Deep Explorer/ Inner Shift) Interview** @SK: Hi Mahal hope you well, welcome to In Sequence Series. We are very privileged to have you here and a great honor to have and hear from you about your music. Firstly could you tell us about yourself and the music, because you produce some great deep house.. when and how did you realize you have this love for production? @Mahal: My name is Tetsuharu Shimohira a.k.a MAHAL, my artist name which came from my nickname MAHAL. ( I used to use this name on SoundCloud because it looks like a little sequret and interesting. no deep reason, I come from a Japanese old city NARA and lived in KOUENJI TOKYO and moved to YOKOHAMA where I now reside at. I have had a special feeling in music from childhood. I used to escape from reality by music. I think it saved me and made me. My childhood dream was being a DJ. My dream is coming true. In my school days I was member of the noise band “MU” That was first time my music release out from my head. @SK: From where you’re from in Japan, there’s quite some good deep house producers like your Kez YM, Kuniyuki Takahashi and so on. How have you ensured you keep up the quality standards of such production? @Mahal: I think Japanese people are good at delicate work but almost a lot of people don’t make music. There are many DJs in Japan but producer not so many. In Tokyo especially 90s there were so many DJs. Now the scene is shortened. So there were so many second-hand cheap good records in Tokyo before nowadays vinyl revival, But I think that Japanese club scene is not mature and there are many problems. @SK: You’ve released with some big names like Lady Blacktronika, HVL and now recently Brad Peterson, Dubbyman & Rai Scott. How has it been like to work with such people? @Mahal: It was much of a very dreamy time for me… 15 years ago I dropped out noise band and started to DJ. And soon I found Dubbyman’s record and played it many times. This Great Japanese senior DJ I like often played Dubbymans tracks. At that time I couldn’t imagine that in the future my record release would be from his label. Also it is interesting that there is common point on Spanish and Japanese roots music. @SK: Your new EP release on Inner shift music and Deep explorer, how did it work to release with 2 great names on a joint venture? @Mahal: I’ve received Many messages, reactions and props from world wide. Especially from South Africa. I have a big interest in South Africa. I believe that music can change people and world better. They proved that, And the messages from legendary artists. Original followers of these labels are very cool and kind. I’m very happy to join in these great labels. @SK: With record sales, would you say artists get any kind of value from their contributions and efforts in terms of sustaining themselves going forward and even making more music for us? @Mahal: Yes. I really appreciate props from worldwide. Before pandemic, I received some DJ offers from EU also. @SK: How do you think the current generation is keeping up with the culture of collecting records and producers releasing on vinyl compared to the new digital world, are the young ones moving away or they’re still keeping it together and better nowadays? @Mahal: Current generation can choose both degital and vinyl. I used to choose vinyls for usability and it’s sound especially dance music, kick and bass is different. But when I listen ambient music at home, sometimes I choose degital. For ambient music, it is good for me that has no record noise. The current generation will choose by contents. @SK: With the current Pandemic going on, how are you and other artists affected? @Mahal: We will realize something really important. Power of love is getting strong around me. I really thank my beautiful people. Beautiful people around me always treat me right. I think that now is the turning point for humans. Human race is

SK Koki N - in sequence009 - The World As I See It
this isn’t just a mix. It’s a reflection. A mood. A full hour of raw, unfiltered house music, told from the vinyl lover’s point of view. This isn’t polished perfection. It’s honest. Imperfect. It crackles, it breathes… and it takes risks. Every track feels handpicked — like flipping through a personal record collection at midnight. It’s deep house, yes — but it’s also deeply "felt". There’s no hiding behind digital fades or formulaic drops. This is mmy world, as I it — and we get to walk through it, one beat at a time. So if you’re ready to experience a mix that feels more like a conversation than a setlist, plug in… zone out… and step into In Sequence009: The World As I See It.

SK Koki N - in sequence007 - The Mechanics Of Me
"The one who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. Those who walk alone are likely to find themselves in places no one has ever been before." We spend the majority of our adolescent lives trying desperately not to be different. No one has ever been picked on for being too normal or not being different enough. We would beg our parents to buy us the same clothes little Thabang or little Thapelo wore. We'd want the same backpack and the same bike everyone else had. With the rise of the cell phone and later the smartphone, Did we truly want these things? Yes, but not just because they were cutting edge and nifty. We desired them because the people around us had them. We didn't want to be the last to get these things. We didn't want to be different. Thankfully, as we mature we begin to realize the fallacy that is trying to be normal. We start to become individuals and learn to appreciate that being different is often seen as beautiful. However, while we begin to celebrate being different on a personal level, it does not always translate into our business or professional lives. This here, was me selecting out of letting myself be. The first 3minutes was truly passionate, I kept enjoying each song as I threw in.. it was a mechanical like build up. Let’s continue to being ourselves!enjoy!

SK Koki N - in sequence006 - Supreme Visions
This mix started with a gig that never happened. I was booked to play in Braamfontein — a gig called *Supreme Sessions.* It was meant to be my return to the crowd… spinning vinyl under the open sky again. I had the itch — that deep craving for connection, for groove, for movement. But the show didn’t go on. Unforeseen circumstances pulled it out from under us — the kind promoters never plan for, but sometimes can’t avoid. Still… I had 30 record records or so I had randomly set aside. No setlist. No clean order. Just instinct. Raw selection. And this episode — *Supreme Visions* — came out of that same feeling: unstructured, unfiltered, unfinished… but still real. I trimmed them down. Spun them with no blueprint. And what came out was a sound that reminded me: even when the stage doesn’t show up — the music still will. This mix is a vision that refused to die with the gig. It’s the spirit of *what could’ve been*, turned into something that *still is.* So here it is… *In Sequence006.*From a Supreme Session selection… to a Supreme Visions episode.”

SK Koki N - in sequence005 - Remembering Carletonville (Song @40min Dedication to Mr Mefolo)
On the week of compiling this episode, a special one to me. It was a period i felt i was being away from my hometown for much too longer, flashbacks and wonderful musical memories kept haunting me. This resulted in me visiting home and seeing the people that i cared about, and met a friend i hadnt seen then for more than 5yrs Paballo Mefolo. The time we spent together was so short but felt more than enough in satifying how i felt. I eventually dedicated the song at 40min to him ( Artist: Powel). This town of Carletonville west of Johannesburg has built the musical mindset i have in me today, with my friend Sinovuyo "Beets" Nocuze. His a musical genius that will some day feature in the series to blend us on his selection of music. Kindly Enjoy!

SK Koki N - in sequence004 - Away from everything we know
It is a fundamental dilemma of humanity: we are constantly lookinf for more (be it success, hapiness, meaning or self-realization) and yet at the same time we have an infinite fear of change. We want the safety of the familiar and at the same time, we are curious about the unknown. Our inner longing for personal development cannot be satisfied in our comfort zone. if we want to learn something new or develop further, we have to venture out into growth zone. in order to survive we have to break new grounds in our thinking and acting- whatever danger or failure. An unsafe condition, which we usually perceive as unpleasant but it's worth it. If a new strategy is found that leads to the goal, then it is internalized. Thus these sequence series podcast, telling stories through music that might be out of your comfort or provide developmental growth. Enjoy!

SK Koki N - in sequence002 - Being Alone Opens Mind
Choosing to spend time doing things by yourself can have mental, emotional and social benefits but the key to reaping those positive rewards comes from choosing to spend time alone. In a culture where we often confuse being alone for loneliness, the ability to appreciate time by ourselves prevents us from processing the experience as a negative thing. In fact, getting better at identifying moments whwn we need to solitude to recharge and reflect can help us better handle negative emotions and experiences, like stress and burnout. most in all, being alone may increase the level of creativity.

SK Koki N - in sequence003 - The Beauty In Potchefstroom
this isn’t just a mix—it’s a memory. It’s a feeling. A reflection of a place that gave me two unforgettable years. Potchefstroom had this incredible balance. You could be outgoing, hit the clubs, get lost in the energy… or you could slow it all down and vibe in the townships of Ikageng. And the people—man, the people—were beautiful. Warm. Real. I met some of the best people there. People who are still in my life today. And the grooves we shared? Legendary. Potch had a pulse… and this set, it captures that. So yeah… this is more than just deep house. This is the *beauty* in Potchefstroom. And I’m proud to have lived it.” Shout out to Tshepo Sibanda
