The Grave Was a Mikvah
<p>Ask what happened in the three days between the cross and the empty tomb and you get one of two answers: a holy pause, or a raid on hell. The Hebrew was built to say a third thing. Communion: What It Really Is, and Why I Refrain
<p>I get invited to church often, and every time we do communion, I refrain. On purpose. This episode is why. Look hard at what we did with that cup. Yeshua put the new covenant in His own blood into the hands of His friends, and we turned it into a sacrament, administered on a schedule, from the front of a room, by a professional. But a covenant that is sealed cannot be re-sealed. There is nothing left to administer. The cup was never meant to found a priesthood. If anything, it dissolves the need for one. We took the very end of the priesthood and built a priesthood around it. Remembrance, zikaron, is a memorial among friends, not a re-sacrifice. He Did It Himself
<p>Most of us were handed a courtroom: a holy God, a guilty defendant, a debt paid on a substitute so the books balance. Millions have loved Yeshua sincerely inside that frame. This episode questions the frame, not the love, because it is not the story the Hebrew Scriptures tell. Their story is a Garden, a rupture, and a long walk home. I follow one thread from Eden to Revelation and name the frameworks that buried it, Augustine, Anselm, Calvin, Darby, none of them in the text. And I say the thing that took me years to find words for: you cannot have the New Covenant of Jeremiah 31 unless God Himself comes down and takes the human side of it. Both.
