“Faith Under Pressure” 1 Thessalonians 2v9-16 [11th Oct 2026]

TEACHING NOTES:
Main truth: God’s gospel changes how we live, and his Word strengthens us to remain faithful when following Jesus becomes costly.
1. Let your life support your message - verses 9 to10
• Paul reminds the believers of his hard work and sacrificial care. They had witnessed his conduct firsthand.
2. Help one another live for God - verses 11to12
• Paul cared for each believer as a father cares for his children.
• He encouraged the weary, instructed those who needed direction and urged them to take obedience seriously.
• Walking “worthy of God” means living in a way that reflects our belonging to him. God calls us into his kingdom and glory. Our future with him shapes our choices today.
3. Welcome God’s Word and respond to it - verse 13
• The Thessalonians received the apostolic gospel as God’s Word.
• Hearing the truth calls for a response of faith and obedience.
• God’s Word continues working in those who believe, exposing sin, strengthening faith and changing lives.
4. Remain faithful when obedience becomes costly - verse 14
• Opposition did not mean that God had abandoned them. They belonged to a wider family of suffering believers.
• Remember your King. His faithfulness gives you courage when others misunderstand or reject your obedience.
5. Take God’s patience and judgment seriously - verses 15 to16
• Paul condemns those persecuting God’s messengers and obstructing the gospel. He does not assign guilt to every Jewish person.
• Persistent resistance brings judgment. God’s patience must never be mistaken for indifference.

“Who Receives the Holy Spirit?” [4th Oct 2026]

When Jesus ascended to heaven, He said that it would be better because the Holy Spirit would come.
Paul warns the Thessalonians not to quench the Spirit, and he instructs Timothy to stir up the gift of God that is in him.
But who is the Holy Spirit? What is His function, and how do we interact with Him?
Is He simply a power we receive when we believe in Jesus? Is He more like the Force in Star Wars, or is He something completely different?
Well, this week we’re going to start looking more closely at the person of the Holy Spirit, to get a better understanding of who He is—and, more specifically, why He comes to indwell us in the first place.
