A Harvest in Latin America:Reaching Nations & The Power of Discipleship

What happens when a deeply religious upbringing becomes a personal relationship with Jesus—and how can one transformed life impact an entire continent? In Episode 15 of Serve Like Jesus, Ben and Emily sit down with Galo, ServeNow’s partner and director of work across Latin America. Galo shares his remarkable journey from Ecuador, where he grew up in a devoted Catholic family, to encountering the gospel in a way that changed his life forever. From working with children in local communities to serving alongside influential evangelists and ministry leaders, Galo has spent decades helping share the gospel, equip the Church, and make disciples across Latin America and beyond. He reflects on the importance of reaching the next generation, the power of discipleship, and the opportunities God is opening across the continent. The conversation also explores why accessible, practical discipleship resources are so important in a rapidly changing world and how ServeNow’s Basic Series books are helping churches teach the foundational truths of the Christian faith. Together, ServeNow and its partners are working toward an ambitious goal: printing one million Basic Series books in Spanish to distribute throughout the Spanish-speaking countries of Latin America. It’s an opportunity to equip churches, reach new generations, and help more people grow in their relationship with Christ. Listen in for an inspiring conversation about the Great Commission, the heart for the one, and the vision to see lives and communities transformed by the power of the gospel.

Understanding Trauma and the Role of Therapy and Community

What happens when trauma, shame, and suffering shape the way we see ourselves, others, and God? And what role can therapy, counseling, and Christian community play in the journey toward healing? In Episode 13 of Serve Like Jesus, Ben, Emily, Kendall, and special guest Patrick explore the complex realities of trauma and the ways it impacts individuals, families, churches, and communities around the world. Patrick draws from his experience as a therapist, as well as his work alongside people affected by trauma in different cultural contexts, to help us understand what healing can look like. The conversation explores the connection between trauma and shame, the danger of isolation, the impact of narcissism and destructive relationships, and why seeking counseling is not a sign of weakness. Together, they discuss how bringing pain into the light, being present with those who are hurting, and finding safe community can become powerful steps toward healing. You'll also hear moving stories from around the world of people who have experienced trauma, grief, shame, forgiveness, and restoration, and reminders that Jesus meets us in our suffering and calls us back into relationship with Him and with one another. Healing doesn't always begin with having the right answers. Sometimes it begins with being seen, heard, understood, and valued. Join us as we consider what it means to serve like Jesus in the midst of pain—and walk with others from shame toward healing.
