Welcome to Sessions with Shawna, the podcast that explores life, relationships, confidence, dating, personal growth, and everything in between with a psychology twist.
Hosted by Shawna Kelly, PhD, therapist, professor, business owner, and podcast host - each episode breaks down the patterns, habits, and roadblocks that keep people feeling stuck and offers practical ways to move forward.
Think of it as a conversation with a friend who also happens to understand psychology. You’ll leave each session with new perspectives, actionable takeaways, and a better understanding of yourself and the people around you.
Listeners can also submit questions and real-life situations for a chance to be featured in a future episode.
So grab your coffee (or your Diet Coke), get comfortable, and let’s get the session started.

The Relationship Session: "Your most important relationship is the one you have with yourself"
You’re the only person you’re guaranteed to spend the rest of your life with… so how’s that relationship going?
In this session, we’re talking about the relationship you have with yourself - how much you trust yourself, how easily other people’s opinions influence you, and how often you accidentally carry someone else’s beliefs into your own life.
I’m also breaking down my “house theory”: the idea that you are the foundation, the people in your life live on the second floor, and everything from money and career to relationships, body image, and success lives upstairs. The problem? Sometimes we start moving other people’s furniture into our house without even realizing it.
We’re talking self-trust, boundaries, outside opinions, and learning to ask one very important question: Whose house is this?
Because you can love people without letting their beliefs become yours.

The Outcast Session: If there's no seat for you at the table, stop trying to pull up a chair.
Have you ever had friends, plans, and people around you but still felt like you didn’t really belong?
There's a session for that.
In this episode, Shawna talks about the strange loneliness of being included but still feeling like the "outcast". We’re getting into the difference between inclusion and belonging, what happens when you start editing parts of yourself to fit certain relationships, and how to tell the difference between rejection and simple misalignment.
Sometimes the answer isn’t cutting everyone off or assuming something is wrong with you. Sometimes it’s recognizing what certain relationships can realistically give you and being brave enough to stop trying to pull up a chair at a table and start building your own table.

Maybe Success Isn’t the Finish Line
What if the life you thought you were supposed to want isn’t actually what you want anymore?
In this episode, Shawna talks about success, imaginary timelines, changing your mind, and the pressure to have everything figured out. She explores why we often question ourselves instead of questioning the story we created about where we “should” be by now.
If you’ve ever felt behind, unfinished, or guilty for wanting something different, this session is about trusting yourself enough to reroute—and redefining success on your own terms.
Because maybe success isn’t reaching the finish line. Maybe it’s becoming someone you trust along the way.
Because maybe success isn’t reaching some imaginary finish line. Maybe it’s trusting yourself enough to change your mind, take the risk, reroute when you need to, and keep becoming the person you’re meant to be.
If you’ve ever felt behind, unfinished, or like you should be somewhere else by now—there’s a session for that.
