A promised powerful result! 1 Corinthians 13:4 – remembering God’s main motive and character! (Ephesians 2:4; 1 John 4:7,8,16; Romans 5:8) Patience; patient endurance is critical in our development. (See Romans 12:2; Philippians 2:13; Romans 8:29) Tests, Trials, Temptations are inevitable in this fallen world (due to the world system, our flesh, the devil). These tests come in varied, multiple ways! (Relational, physical, spiritual, financial, etc.) The enemy’s agenda is to attack our Faith! God can and does USE tests, trials to develop our Faith, increase our connection to Him! Enemy agenda - destroy; God’s agenda - development. James 1:3,4 – God is “working on something”! (Hebrews 6:15) Faith and Patience are Partners! The Test won’t endure forever or destroy you (1 Corinthians 10:18) Joy is supernatural energy! Joy is given by the Lord and deposited in your re-born spirit by the Holy Spirit. (John 17:13; Romans 15:3; Galatians 5:22) The Joy of the Lord is my strength! (Nehemiah 8:10)

By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. – James 3:13–18 ESV What is strife? Strife: the competitive inward drive for self-centered agenda, self-focused results, push to get others to defer to my agenda and methods. A contention for superiority, conflict resulting from rivalry Strife is _____________ before it is ever _____________ . (James 3:14; 4:1; Gal. 5:19-20) _____________ ourselves. (Phil. 2:3-4; cf. 1:17) Philippians 2:3-4 - Do nothing from selfish ambition (strife) or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Let go of _____________ . (Pro. 29:22; 30:33; cf. Gen. 4:3-7) Prov. 29:22 - A man of wrath stirs up strife, and one given to anger causes much transgression. Be _____________ who you _____________ to. “The Hidden Culprit Of Our Defeat” (And Most Of Us Never Saw It Coming) James 3:13-16 Sessions 1, 2 July 19, 2026 Strife is a poison that works to defeat, divide, distract, and destroy everything Good that the Lord desires for us! It works as an agent of the enemy in our relationships, business, church, governments, teams, etc. What is strife? Strife: the competitive inward drive for self-centered agenda, self-focused results, push to get others to defer to my agenda, methods! Strife is NOT disagreement, or confrontation. It is an internal contention. What are it’s results? Self-deception; self-indulgent, demonic influence, confusing conflict, access to everything evil. (James 3:16) What is strife’s “Root”? An internal agenda and mindset to “have it my way.” This contentious striving disturbs the peace of God and violates His Love. (Romans 5:8) It grieves the Holy Spirit! (Ephesians 4:30-32) How To Deal with the enemy of Strife Recognize Strife’s presence by the Spirit. (Psalm 139:23,24) “Search me O God” Confront the enemy. Be diligent! (James 4:6, 7) Close the door! Via the authority in the Word, declare the promises and ownership of the Lord. (Proverbs 26:20) Practical Principles For Victory Over Strife/Contention: (*Remember: this is an ongoing War! (See Acts 15:37-40) Love, honor, respect, and prayer are non-negotiable. (Separation, when these are still present, is sometimes necessary. “You can’t Fix everything”: (Romans 12:18) “If possible, as far as it lies with you, be at peace with all”. Start with “me”! Humble self and ask the Lord to reveal what I need to see! (Psalm 139:23, 24); (Self Repent) In prayer, receive the Love of God by faith, for the other party. Forgive them, pray for them …. (Romans 5:8; Matthew 5:44; Ephesians 4:32) ** “Lord, I obey you, by your Grace, through the Holy Spirit, not by my mind or feelings, but through Your Grace, I forgive ______________________.” It is through YOUR GRACE, by Your Spirit, that YOU will lead them to see what YOU want them to see.” By God’s Grace, make a firm decision to close the door to strife and keep closing it! Recognize the agents and traps of strife! When engaged, speak the Truth in Love. Be willing to suffer for doing right. (1 Peter 2:20, 22)
