The sheer size and remoteness of its forests, mountains, and rural areas have made it a setting for both mystery and misdeed. The shady forests of the Santiam Wilderness, where Tammy’s car was found, are infamous for murders that have occurred along Highway 20. It's basic 101 investigating—statistically, the spouse or domestic partner is always the first person of interest. That’s not bias; it’s experience and evidence. But this does not mean we are fixated on one person or that we are ignoring other possibilities.</p><p>So this is why—and where—we'll start with Tammy's husband at the time she went missing, Reese Pitkin. His relationship with Tammy, their history, and the circumstances leading up to her disappearance are all crucial to understanding what might have happened.
