SR019 - Part 2: Taint Bacon, Strike Three & the Irish Goodbye

The Shaffer RULES crew is finally back—after Brian forgets to hit record and loses ten minutes of what was undoubtedly million-dollar podcast content.

In Part 2 of Episode 19, Corey shares his collection of vintage Eljer miniature toilets, sinks, bathtubs, and other pieces of Ford City history now available at Shaff’s Emporium and Woodworks. From there, the conversation takes a sharp turn into some highly questionable entrepreneurial concepts involving peach gummies, buckets of gummies, and the potential launch of the world’s first taint bacon gummy empire.

The guys also introduce a possible new tradition for podcast guests: demonstrating their signature strike-three call. That leads to stories about umpiring, wooden bats, altered bats, changing high school baseball equipment rules, and the challenge of surviving a youth softball game that refuses to end.

Later, the conversation covers the Pittsburgh Pirates, the ongoing campaign against Greg Brown, legendary outfield arms, college fraternity memories, old-school marijuana runs, whether it is better to be called “boss” or “chief,” and the art of the Irish goodbye.

Dane also discusses his upcoming wedding, while the crew explains why local sponsorships are important to the future of the podcast—including equipment upgrades, remote broadcasts, live events, and the creation of more locally focused media content.

As always, expect adult humor, unfiltered conversations, questionable ideas, and stories that probably should not have been recorded.

Topics include:

Vintage Eljer collectibles and Ford City history

Shaff’s Emporium and Woodworks

Ball maxing and other terrible internet trends

Peach gummies and questionable candy concepts

The return of Fritzy’s taint bacon

Signature umpire strike-three calls

Little League baseball and softball stories

Wooden bats, altered bats, and bat technology

Pittsburgh Pirates commentary

The campaign to fire Greg Brown

College fraternity memories

“Boss” versus “Chief”

Irish goodbyes and party exit strategies

Podcast sponsorships and future live content

Listener discretion is advised. SR018 - Part 2: Live from Elk Brewing Company, Disco Demolition, Brazil Calls & The Busket of Doom

The Shaffer RULES Podcast is back live from Elk Brewing Company in Kittanning, PA for Episode 18 - Part 2, and the second half of the night goes completely off the rails in the best possible way.

Brian and Corey kick things back off after the break by recapping the original songs inspired by past podcast stories, including “She Took My Van,” the Cervelli cat song, and the now infamous “Kicked in the Dick by a Chick.” From there, the guys dive into the wild history of Disco Demolition Night at Comiskey Park in 1979 — only to be joined by Dr. Kirk Weber, who was actually there when it happened.

The episode also includes a live behind-the-scenes tour of Elk Brewing Company, where Josh walks everyone through the brewing process, from the hot liquor tank and mash tun to the boil kettle, fermenters, kegging, and fresh beer samples.

Then things get even more unpredictable with audience participation, the first official “Busket of Doom,” a gong, a call-in from Brazil, and plenty of live-show chaos.
