Malachi is the last voice God's people will hear from heaven for four hundredyears. The next will be John the Baptist's. This minor prophet — whose namemeans "my messenger" — was sent to a remnant grown smug and skeptical:corrupt priests offering blemished sacrifices, men callously divorcing thewives of their youth, a people who had relegated their faith to mereformalism. Yet before God rebukes them, he opens with love: "I have lovedyou, says the Lord."Across ten episodes we walk the whole book — the seven challenges and sevenanswers, the call to give God our best, the warning to leaders, "I hatedivorce," the promise to send the messenger, the refiner's fire, theinvitation to "test me" in our giving, the scroll of remembrance, and theclosing prophecy of the Son of righteousness who will rise with healing inhis wings.Malachi ends with a warning.
