One’s responses might be, “I’ve tried!” “I’m still trying.” “I’ll trust that I’ll be forgiven, so just won’t worry about it.” We'd get lots of different answers, angles, and maybe even arguments over how to respond to that question.
Yes, God’s Word definitely tells us what to stop and what to do. One of the big keys that we’ll unpack tomorrow is his command to “put off the old self” and “put on the new self,” What does that even mean? What does that look like?
If you are a Christ Follower I‘m confident your desire is see Him more clearly, love Him more dearly, and follow Him more nearly. That has the ring of song to it. Seriously, God is always at work in our lives, changing us to be more like Him. The Apostle Paul called it, “being changed from glory to glory.” (2 Corinthians 3:18) It’s a Day by Day thing!
I hope to be sharing some helpful practical applications from Colossians 3:5-11 tomorrow.

Colossians - Jesus Rules & Heaven is Real
While in college, one of my good friends, Alex, got a job working as a barista at a Starbucks near campus. Not long after he started, he'd come back to our dorm talking about a guy named Tony who came to his Starbucks twice a day. He'd come early in the morning, play a round of golf, and come back in the afternoon. He had a specific morning order and a specific afternoon order. And every day, Alex would make the order and hand Tony his drinks.
Tony was a topic of conversation not because of his order, but because of how he tipped. Twice a day, he'd stop in, pick up his drinks, and hand Alex a $50 tip. Why on earth would someone tip a barista $100 a day to make two coffee drinks?
It turned out that Tony was Tony Kukoc, a three-time NBA Champion who played with Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, and the rest of the ‘96, ‘97, and ‘98 Chicago Bulls. He still lived in Deerfield, where the Bulls have their practice facility.
This Sunday, we'll continue walking through the book of Colossians. Paul makes a point that the Christian life should look so different than the world; people will be confused by how you live.

Colossians - Christ is First in Religion
When I was a kid, one of my favorite restaurants was The Old Country Buffet. Anytime my grandma made the trip from Florida to Wisconsin, I knew we'd be hitting the "OCB!" Was the food quality?…Meh, but you could eat as much as you wanted. And for me, that meant unlimited fried chicken and several bowls of gummy bears!
I once heard a pastor named JD Greer refer to the city of Colossae as the Golden Corral of worship. Any god, any practice, as much or as little as you'd like. This culture made following Jesus pretty challenging. When I look at the culture we're in, it's not so different.
I can't wait to spend Sunday morning with you, as we continue looking at who Jesus is, in a buffet of beliefs.
