About Shoutout From The Pit

A recovery podcast for you and for us. This introduction is to tell you about who we are and who we are not. We’re you. We’re just people, working people for the most part dealing with our “stuff.” We’re recovering from what we’ve learned are character defects. Defects that shaped who we became. Recovery has lots of labels: substance abuse, alcoholism, anger, anxiety, gambling, pornography, sex (too much or not enough), grief, over-eating, yadayadayada. Some of us are labeled addicts, alcoholics, haters, weepers, etc., because that’s how we’re viewed since that’s what’s visible on the outside. On the inside we’re dealing with things along the lines of the seven deadly sins: envy, gluttony, greed, lust, pride, sloth, and wrath. Some of the sub- labels include insecurities, self-esteem, pain, various hurts and habits, and the list goes on. We address various labels but, in most cases, we believe labels are really just masks, or symptoms, to the real problem – Life’s “stuff.” Learning to deal with life, on life’s terms, is what matters. And, whew, that can be tuff!

   Episode 0089 Goodyear Leadership

In this episode the Old Rucker reconnects with retired Sergeant Major Dan Goodyear, a longtime mentor whose example of leadership, integrity, patriotism, and service helped shape Bob’s life. Dan shares stories from his military career, his experiences as a Marine and Army National Guard leader, and his ongoing mission work in Africa, where he helps provide biblical education and support to local communities. They explore leading by example, the value of mentorship, overcoming personal struggles, finding purpose, and building relationships that help people move forward in recovery and in life. Through honest reflections on faith, teamwork, accountability, and supporting one another through difficult times, Dan offers a practical message of hope nobody succeeds alone, and each of us has the opportunity to make a difference by lifting others up and paying it forward. Episode 0088 2CYR An Inside Look

On Episode 22 Bob interviewed the directors of Second Chance Youth Ranch, Billy and Rachael Hubbard, and their awesome children and future leaders of America. Today’s episode allowed Bob to visit with their staff at the Connections Center in Benton and get an inside look at Second Chance Youth Ranch, their mission, their roles, and their hearts for the hurting. Bob talks with campus parents, therapists, case managers, and leadership about what it takes to care for children who have been separated from their families, the importance of keeping siblings together, trauma informed therapy, foster care, reunification, and the sacrifices made by the people who step into these children’s lives. The conversation also highlights the ranch’s annual Faithful to the Fatherless fundraiser, the need for additional foster homes, the importance of supporting the families already doing the work, and the many ways the community can help through prayer, volunteering, giving, or simply showing up. Along the way, the staff shares personal stories, faith, humor, hard truths, and a reminder that helping vulnerable children is not something any one person has to do alone.
