Show Me Your Deck

About Show Me Your Deck

A podcast with Dean Sage and Jack Kirven where they explore the intersection of oracle decks and chakras, using their original decks to create new insights. Dean's deck is a modern translation of the Tarot that removes gender-norms to reveal the deeper, non-gendered meaning of the cards. Jack's four decks play with the traditional chakra system, examining the way they intersect, rather than using them in isolation. The show allows inspiration to arise from the intersection of all decks using both intuition and chance. Dean pulls his cards as the Tarot reader does, while Jack relies on dice to see which cards his decks will offer up. The result is a reading and a reminder that uses the language of chakras and the diversity of the Tarot.

   Episode: 73 The Hewn Temple

http://patreon.com/deansagemedia Jack starts the session by drawing Card 20 from the sassy deck, which delivers a simple yet profound message: "No.". Jack and Dean unpack how saying "no" is a complete sentence that requires no further explanation or justification. It is a vital tool for boundary-setting, preventing us from frittering away our energy to please others at our own expense. Jack shares a recent frustrating experience picking up a passenger for Lyft that highlights how a lack of clear communication and failing to establish early boundaries can quickly derail your day. The hosts then transition to the Source of Storms card, reminding us that we are the masters of our own internal storms and shouldn't expect external winds to lift us up. In the traditional tarot, this card equates directly to the Queen of Swords, representing the deep, double-edged emotional work of processing grief and heartbreak internally rather than letting external chaos dominate our emotional landscape. Moving into the heart chakra, Jack and Dean pull a card from the literal professions deck: "I profess that I am a compassionate sacred space.". This card prompts a rich discussion on treating ourselves with deep respect and cultivating an internal sanctuary, which they compare to temples hewn out of solid rock. This beautiful architectural metaphor seamlessly bridges into the Eight of Storms—which corresponds directly to the Eight of Swords in the traditional tarot. Representing the daunting feeling that "from the ground, your grief looks insurmountable", Dean and Dean describe how overcoming toxic patterns and childhood programming is an active, slow process of excavation. They reflect that like carving Michelangelo’s statues or Petra’s underground rooms, saying "no" to the excess stone is what reveals our truest self, transforming painful loss into beautiful, negative space waiting to be filled with future joy. Finally, the reading moves toward execution with a pull from the sassy deck that instructs listeners to open their eyes, listen, and indulge their curiosity. Jack and Dean debate the impact of digital landscapes and modern technology, focusing on the rise of artificial intelligence. They frame AI not as something to fear, but as a modern-day chisel—a tool whose value depends entirely on the hand that holds it to carve away the chaff and execute raw human ideas. Deconstructing past trauma and old family programming can be a heavy, painful process. However, this final card serves as a rallying cry to step out of the heavy emotional ruins, utilize our tools, actively engage our curiosity, and execute our personal visions to find a path forward.

   Episode 72: Weaponized Truth

http://patreon.com/deansagemedia Jack and Dean begin the episode with Card 27, which urges listeners to "earn your gray hair and crow's feet," engage the unpleasant, lampoon the absurd, and wear age like a badge. This card explores how wounds like arbaglyphs carved into a tree trunk eventually heal over and become a testament to endurance, encouraging us to wear our scars with pride. This discussion on aging leads to their next pull, the Seven of Seeds, which corresponds directly to the Seven of Pentacles in the traditional tarot. Tying into a recent tarot reading of Dean's, the hosts explore creativity as a slow-growing garden, emphasizing that purposeful planting and patient gestation are necessary because different ideas have different care instructions and germinate at their own pace. Next, the hosts pull Card 29, representing an air-on-air throat chakra intersection. This card poses the core question of the episode: "Weaponized truth hurts. Is it factually true? Does it need sharing? Telling accomplishes what?" It warns against using honesty as a blunt instrument and cautions that words repeated over and over can distort reality like wind forming a destructive tornado. This idea of emotional storms flows directly into their pull of the Eight of Storms, which equates to the Eight of Swords in the traditional tarot. This card reminds us that from ground level, our grief and struggles can look insurmountable; however, the hosts explain that by pulling back and viewing the storm from a higher perspective, we can find the distance needed to safely process our pain. The reading wraps up with Card 37, a beautiful gradient card that brings together the third eye and crown chakras to look at how what we see is impacted by what we know. Described as a "seeing is believing" card, this final pull encourages us to apply our learned information and earned wisdom to a higher, universal purpose. From discussing Jacks's recent interactions to how he was able to share generational wisdom with body dysmorphia with passengers in his car, the cards ultimately paint a picture of emotional maturity. The hosts reflect on how we must continually rise through the chakras, leaning on the insights of others to help guide our perception of truth in an interconnected world.

   Episode 71 Tempered by Flames

http://patreon.com/deansagemedia Jack and Dean kick off the reading with card number 16 in reversal, widely recognized in the tarot as the Tower. Although the traditional tarot associates the Tower with lightning strikes, destruction, and sudden calamity, they reframe this sudden upheaval as a blank canvas of potential and an opportunity to clear away the rubble to start fresh. This theme of starting fresh carries into their second pull, card number 40, which represents the intersection of the third eye and solar plexus chakras. This card serves as a powerful reminder that on a cleared field, you can manifest whatever you see in your mind's eye, giving you the liberating freedom to plan your next moves even in the face of overwhelming loss. The conversation deepens as they draw their third card, the Source of Storms, which corresponds to the Queen of Swords in the traditional tarot. This card cautions the listener against expecting outside forces—or the very storms that knocked you down—to lift you back up. Instead, it urges us to recognize that our emotional elements lie within, allowing ourselves to process both grief and joy so we can heal rather than bottling up our feelings. Next, they transition into some "overt fabulosity" with card number 45 from the projections of joy deck, which represents the crown and sacral chakra intersection. This sassy card commands the listener to admit they are fabulous and list ten reasons why, offering a practical, self-affirming anchor to keep our sense of self intact during times of instability. The reading concludes with the Five of Flames, which corresponds directly to the Five of Wands in the tarot. Acknowledging that five cards traditionally represent conflict in the tarot, they explore how we must not fear the burning flames of others, whether that comes from creative disagreements or comparing ourselves to someone else's journey. Dean shares raw, personal stories of overcoming massive betrayals and resets in his own life, demonstrating that shame and blame are only useful if they lead to healing. Ultimately, this episode reminds us that while collaborative work and life's resets will inevitably singe us, the process of enduring creative friction and personal trials serves to test and temper us into something far more beautiful and resilient.
