Building Culture Through Relationships

Slanting The Defensive Line
Discussing the advantages of slanting the defensive line, EVEN IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BASE OUT OF A SLANTING FRONT. We discuss my transition from a 4-3 Read and React defensive system into my love for slanting, which I now run within a 3-4 defensive system. Let’s begin with a question…
Have you ever been down?
Have you ever been down in a game? Losing by a large margin… Going into half time with a sense of hopelessness in the air. You’re trying to pick the team up, to give them courage, but the response is flat…
Think of an instance in life where you felt like life was beating you..
You didn’t get accepted into the college you wanted. You lost your job. You lost your spouse. You experienced the death of a loved one.
Take that experience, let it fester in your mind… How did you feel going through it all? What were you thinking? How did you respond?
You see… Coming back from something that gets you down in life, something that makes you feel like you are losing, something that makes you feel defeated, like you want to give up… Coming back from something like that is tough, but through the story of Easter, we know we have hope…
Today’s episode dives deeper than football, we go into the power of the Cross and examine how it adds hope to our lives in the midst of the storm. It’s my hope and prayer that by the end of this episode you feel encouraged to take on any challenges that you might be experiencing in your own life, and you begin taking action for your own personal comeback story. Faith, Family, and Football
In this episode, we are discussing ways to maintain faith as a coach, improve spouse and family relationships, and provide tips on how to run various types of cover 3 to maintain flat integrity even with sending outside pressure.
Throughout the episode, I acknowledge the struggles of living as a Christian coach within the coaching atmosphere. Not every coach you work with (OR UNDER) will necessarily be a Christian coach. This doesn’t make them “bad” coaches or diminish their callings… You just need to acknowledge the differences that might arise between your coaching styles. This includes finding time to prioritize your family. As a coach, we are often expected to live in the office. This idea that success only comes for people who are always found in the office, but that reality isn’t true… Which we will discuss in greater detail in our next episode.
The final section of the video focuses on football, discussing the advantages of running cover 3 in a 3-4 defense. Learning to teach safeties to roll coverage and absorb for outside linebackers on blitz allows you to run more pressure while maintaining strong pass coverage. Is cover 4 bad? No, I’m not saying that… But if you want to send more pressure, you may not want to constantly leave the flats open when sending outside pressure.
