We New Zealanders (or Kiwis as we're known) on some of the World's greatest sporting stages. We're full of amazing Sports stories of how as an Underdog we keep producing, punching, and performing well above and beyond what anyone expected.....
Why is that?
The Athlete needs to perform and if they're successful and perform amazingly well and even win well, the spot light shines brightly on them and the athlete gets the headline and well, that's awesome! But what about all the people behind the Athlete, the hours of Sacrifices and the stories untold of that journey?
We aren't famous New Zealanders (YET) but we're family, and we wanted to create a His and Her's Perspective for the Podcast world - and tell stories from the amazing people we currently know or will have the privilege to meet on this journey.
In this episode we sit down with Doug Tietjens to talk rugby, leadership, and the people who make sport special. From grassroots beginnings to his role with Manawatū Rugby, Doug shares his experiences, insights, and passion for the game. Another great conversation about the people behind the sport we love.

Episode 8 - Kent Stembridge
This week on Sidelines & Sacrifices, Kelly and Craig sit down with Kent owner operator from Active Plus to talk about something every coach, parent, and volunteer fears. Injury on the sideline. With over 20 years of experience in rugby and sporting injuries, Kent shares clear, practical advice on those first few minutes after a player goes down. How do you know when it’s serious? When should a player stay off? What can you do? And just as importantly, what not to do? Kent helps us cut through the panic with calm, practical guidance that any grassroots coach or parent can act on. And this episode is part of a bigger goal to build a straightforward sideline injury response guide for grassroots sport. It's about confidence, common sense, and putting player welfare first. Sidelines & Sacrifices. Every game has a scoreboard, but every sport has a story.
