Pero estos lugares tenían importancia religiosa también. Los cenotes y las cuevas eran sitios de sacrificios para los dioses. Los mayas creían que podían hablar mejor con los dioses en las cuevas y que eran portales a Xibalbá, el lugar de miedo. Tuve la experiencia de nadar en un cenote en México, así que cuando fui a Belice tenía que entrar en una cueva.
