I batch my social media once a week. Every Friday I sit down and create all of it in one go. And there was a stretch where every single Friday I would procrastinate, and procrastinate, and procrastinate some more. Social media is not my first love, so you'd think the dread was about Instagram. Instagram was the easy part.
What was actually waiting for me at the end of that session was the thing that looked best on paper, which is exactly why I held on longer than I should have. This episode is the story of what that cost me, and the side of the math almost nobody in this industry talks about.
This week's action: find the one platform you keep putting off and ask yourself three questions about it.

The Swing
There were weeks I checked my numbers so often it became a hobby I never signed up for. Open the app, close it, open it again four minutes later, as if something was going to be different. And then there were weeks I didn't look at all, because guilt has its own gravity, and looking felt worse than not knowing.
I've lived inside that swing for years, and knowing exactly what it is has never once been enough to stop it. This week is about what finally did, and the two jobs most of us keep running through the same tired part of our brain.
Plus: why you won't hear a specific figure from me, and the one comparison that tells you anything true.
This week's action: pick one signal you actually have data on, look at it, and ask yourself one question.

What's the Trade?
I've rented exactly two houses in my life. Both times, somebody showed up at my door to tell me I had to leave. The first time it was a sheriff's deputy. The second time, the news came from a much friendlier face.
After two of those, I have strong feelings about building anything on property you don't own, your business included. But owning it is only half the story, and the other half is the part almost every coach skips.
Plus: why the biggest, most generous freebie usually loses, and the three things that win instead.
This week's action: one sentence, written down, even if the thing it describes doesn't exist yet. Then two blocks of time on your calendar to make it real.

One Ask, Not Five
I wrote a caption once that I was proud of. Good hook, a true story, the kind of thing that actually sounds like me instead of a template. Then I got to the end of it and couldn't stop myself, one more thing to click, then another, then one more after that. Nobody clicked on any of them.
There's a pattern under that caption, one that shows up for almost every coach I work with, and for me too, in exactly the moments I'm not paying attention to it. It has nothing to do with how good the writing is.
Plus: the objection that stops most good coaches from saying the plain thing, and why it doesn't hold up.
This week's action: pull five pieces you've already published and run each one through three quick questions.

The Layer You Skip
I can edit someone else's writing in twenty minutes flat and tell you exactly what's missing. Hand me my own words and I freeze: write a sentence, delete it, write it again almost the same way, every single time. I used to think that was a writing thing, or a perfectionism thing. Turns out it's a marketing-myself thing, and those are two different problems wearing the same outfit.
Underneath every client's problem, there are three layers, and most coaches, this one included, stop at the first one. This week is about finding the other two, plus the voice that shows up right on schedule once you do, the one that never fully quiets down no matter how long you've been at this.
Plus: a coach who moves through all three layers without ever sounding like she's lecturing anyone. Worth watching if you want to see it done well.
This week's action: take your ideal client and write three sentences, one for each layer. Actually write them down, not just think about them.

It Looks Like Nothing. Then It Looks Like Everything.
There's a list somewhere in your world. A notebook, a content calendar, a plan you followed for two strong weeks before life got loud and it quietly stopped.
This week closes out the Growth Compass with the point that keeps it all moving, and the one perfectionism trap that's probably costing you more than any missed week ever could.
Plus: the three numbers actually worth checking, once a month, and the free tool that shows you exactly where to focus next.

A Sprint With No Finish Line
I spent a dog sitting weekend watching a chaos gremlin of a puppy run zoomies through my son's house. By Sunday night I realized I hadn't created a single piece of content for the week ahead, with an anniversary, a birthday, and a day of Easter prep still in front of me. That's the moment this episode starts from.
If your marketing falls apart every time your life gets full, it was never a system. It was just you running fast enough to look consistent.
This week we build the part that holds. Your marketing is three parts of one system: your core platform (the one place you go deep each week), your email list (the only asset you actually own), and social (where what you've already made brings new people in). One core piece a week feeds the other two, so nothing gets created twice from scratch.
We also get honest about batching. Real batching isn't 30 days of content in one Saturday afternoon. It's a workflow you plan and protect, built around how you actually work.
This week's action: look back at your alignment answers from episode 2 and choose the ONE core platform you'll create from. Write it at the top of the page you've been building.
Next week we close out the Growth Compass with execution.

My Son Refused to Be Left-Handed
My son spent sixteen years refusing to admit he was left-handed. He adapted, he compensated, he made it work, until one day on a basketball court we finally asked him to just try the shot left-handed. Clean release, no hitch. His body had been waiting for permission the whole time.
I watch coaches do the same thing with their marketing. You find a strategy that's working for someone else, a bigger team, a different schedule, a completely different business, and you force yourself into it. It falls apart, and you assume you're the problem. You're not. The strategy was never built for how you work.
This week is about alignment: designing your marketing around your natural strengths, where your ideal client actually spends her time, and how much a real week can actually give you.
Three questions to sit with:
What kind of content creation feels natural to you?
Where does your ideal client actually spend her time?
How much time can you give your marketing in a real week, not your best week?
Write your answers down right next to last week's clarity answers. That page is starting to turn into your map.

Your Content Was Never the Problem
Your marketing isn't broken. It's just missing a plan. In this first episode of Simply Strategic, Maryjo breaks down why so many fitness and wellness coaches feel unsure about their marketing, and the three questions that bring instant clarity.
You're not bad at marketing. You just don't have a map yet. In this episode, Maryjo talks about why so many fitness and wellness coaches feel stuck when it comes to getting the word out. She explains why clarity, not more effort, is what actually moves the needle. You'll hear the three questions every coach needs to answer before building a real marketing plan, and why guessing your way through content isn't a strategy. This episode sets the stage for the deeper work ahead: getting clear on your goals, your audience, and where they actually spend their time.
Takeaways:
Word of mouth got her clients real results, but it isn't a strategy you can build on.
If people can't tell what you do, they can't become your client.
You're not bad at marketing. You just need a map.
Clarity starts with three questions, not three hundred tactics.
The clearer you get, the more your marketing sounds like it's speaking to one person.
Find out where your people actually are, then show up there on purpose.
Without clarity, marketing is just a guess.
