Part 2 of our Veterans BBQ Camp series — and this time it's the founder's story. Charlie Eblen and Derry Wells sit down with Franka Magana, the man who started Veterans BBQ Camp, to hear where it all came from: his own story, the moment the idea took hold, and how a camp built around fire, food, and fellow veterans grew into what it is today.
If you caught Part 1, this is the one that fills in the why. If you didn't, start here — then go back.
Listen in for all the greatness. Rutherford County's first-ever Veterans Day Parade is Saturday, November 14th at 10:00 AM, going down Main Street in Murfreesboro.

"Cooking, smoking, grilling — it truly is therapeutic for all veterans. And when you bring them all together, you can see the spirits lift. It brings the camaraderie back." Single Tree Nation hits the road!
Charlie Eblen and Derry Wells head to Rural Hill Farms in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, for the final day of the 7th annual Veterans BBQ Camp, founded by Marine veteran Frank Magana of Hearty Hog BBQ. For several days, veterans from the Army, Marine Corps, Air Force and beyond learn everything from wood selection and butchery to brisket, pork butts, ribs and chicken from pitmasters and subject-matter experts.
But as every vet Derry talks to makes clear, the barbecue is only half the story. The real takeaway is the kinship, the brotherhood and sisterhood, and a place where veterans can finally let their guard down.
In this episode:
• Derry interviews camp participants: Paul,, Jason, Ramona, Tom and more
• The "magic numbers" of low and slow (225–250°F)
• Steak lessons from a national champion, tama white sauce and bacon-wrapped jalapeñodates
• A three-year waitlist that was "100% wort • Charlie's new trick: writing cook times right on the smoker with welder's chalk
• A shout-out to friend of the show Carey BSpirits, one of the camp's sponsors
• Friday Feel Good: love the people around you, keep your circle small and make it meaningful
Part 2 drops next week with our sit-down with founder Frank Magana.
You won't want to miss his story.

They Moved to Murfreesboro on Faith: Believe Social's Savannah & Lane Knight
Savannah and Lane Knight run Believe Social, the creative marketing agency behind Single Tree BBQ's socials — and this year they packed up a small town in Mississippi and moved to Murfreesboro on faith. Charlie Eblen and Derry Wells sit down with both of them on the couch.
Savannah built the agency four years ago working with boutiques; a client with multiple dealerships kept bringing her to Tennessee until "once every six months" turned into every month. Lane, five years an operator at a paper mill, told her he'd only move if she could replace his income. She did. "Honestly, all God is all I have to say about that."
Then it gets into the work: why they're not just making posts to make posts, how analytics drive every piece of content, why both of their work ethics are "insane," which platforms skew which way (and where the bots live), and the Single Tree post that went controversial without trying — plus why Derry Googled Mediterranean food in Murfreesboro and Single Tree Barbecue came up first.
Also in this one: Charlie's Mississippi golf story that ended with a fistfight on the 18th green and Uncle Peach putting $1,000 on Herschel Walker's number, Trinidad Chambliss and owning your mistakes, whether politics should touch your friendships, flashlight conversations, "Do y'all's ears not pop?", and an Oscar Wilde Friday Feel Good.
