Comic-Con 2026 Reactions: Lanterns, Clayface, Avengers Doomsday & Scott Pilgrim
In this episode of Sketching Up, Chris Schnabel and Matt Tornetta break down the biggest trailers, announcements, and surprises from San Diego Comic-Con 2026.
Matt shares his excitement for the new Lanterns trailer, including Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, Sinestro, and the arrival of the Manhunters. Chris and Matt discuss why the buddy-cop structure could help Lanterns stand apart from traditional superhero projects and whether DC is finally building a stronger, more focused cinematic universe.
They also dive into the upcoming Clayface movie, its psychological-horror direction, connections to Batman: The Animated Series, and why superhero projects may need to embrace different genres to overcome audience fatigue.
On the Marvel side, Chris and Matt debate the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer, Doctor Doom’s limited screen time, the return of familiar heroes, and whether Marvel revealed too much—or not nearly enough. They compare Doom’s introduction to Thanos’ buildup before Infinity War and discuss why Marvel’s next crossover needs to restore confidence in the MCU.
The episode also covers the reported Ryan Gosling Ghost Rider project, Marvel’s continued trouble developing Blade, the new direction for Black Panther 3, and whether T’Challa should have been recast following Chadwick Boseman’s passing.
Finally, the episode concludes with excitement over Scott Pilgrim X: Dawn of Metal, the newly announced continuation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s iconic series, and what Chris and Matt hope to see from Scott Pilgrim’s next chapter.
If you enjoy conversations about Comic-Con, DC Studios, Marvel Studios, Avengers: Doomsday, Green Lantern, Clayface, Ghost Rider, Black Panther, Scott Pilgrim, superhero movies, comics, and pop culture, this episode is for you.
