Skin of Color Savvy: Razor Bumps—Treating Pseudofolliculitis Barbae in Skin of Color
In this October episode of the Skin of Color Savvy podcast (https://www.hcplive.com/view/skin-of-color-savvy-razor-bumps-treating-pseudofolliculitis-barbae-skin-color), guest host Prince Adotama, MD, of NYU Grossman School of Medicine, spoke with Yoseph Dalia, MD, MBA, a dual board-certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine and a committee member of the Skin of Color Society (SOCS), about diagnosing and managing pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB), commonly known as razor bumps.
During this conversation, Dalia explained PFB is a chronic inflammatory condition that develops when a hair fails to exit the skin, called a transfollicular pathway, or exits and curls back into it, called an extrafollicular pathway. In both cases, the body mounts a foreign body reaction against the hair shaft.

Skin of Color Savvy: Reimbursement, Coverage, and Care Gaps for Patients With Skin of Color
In this episode of Skin of Color Savvy, a show hosted by Skin of Color Society (SOCS) (https://www.skinofcolorsociety.org/) leaders and produced by HCPLive, host Elizabeth Kiracofe, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in Chicago and co-chair of the SOCS Advocacy Committee, speaks alongside Murad Alam, MD. Alam is a dermatologist at Northwestern University, a former SOCS board member, and president of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD).
The pair of leaders in the field of dermatology discuss how health policy shapes access to dermatologic care (https://www.hcplive.com/clinical/dermatology), particularly for individuals with skin of color. They have met with Illinois legislators together in Washington, DC, and both frame advocacy as a natural extension of patient care rather than a separate or self-serving pursuit.

Skin of Color Savvy: How SOCS Serves Builds Dermatology Pathways and Community Trust
In a new ‘Savvy Stories’ episode of the Skin of Color Savvy podcast, Nada Elbuluk, MD, and Temitayo A. Ogunleye, MD, introduced SOCS Serves, a volunteer program giving Skin of Color Society (SOCS) (https://skinofcolorsociety.org/) members ready-made resources for community service.
Elbuluk is a professor of dermatology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and immediate past president of SOCS. Ogunleye is a board-certified dermatologist and professor of clinical dermatology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Both co-chair the initiative.
Both describe service as a core part of medicine rather than a separate pursuit. Ogunleye noted it can ease burnout and reconnect clinicians with purpose, while Elbuluk tied it to health equity work. Ogunleye encouraged colleagues to find a way to serve. Elbuluk cited Margaret Mead's view that small groups of committed people drive change.
