Introduction: What Is Christianese? Don’t Be Christianese About It
What is Christianese, and are the things we say in church actually in the Bible? Welcome to Don’t Be Christianese About It, a faith-without-filters series on Skinnies Podcast. In this introduction, you’ll hear what the series is about, why it exists, and what you can expect.
Christians have a language. “Know God for yourself.” “The church is a hospital for sinners.” “It’s not a religion, it’s a relationship.” We say these phrases so often that few of us stop to ask: is that true? In this series, we take what we say in church and online and check it against scripture. Some of it holds up. Some of it is half true. And some of it is just Christianese: it sounds spiritual, but it isn’t in the Bible.
In this episode:
What Christianese is, and why it matters.
What happens when we hide struggles behind Christian language.
Why we should call a spade a spade, and why that doesn’t make God less holy.
How this series works: we confront, we don’t condemn, and we end with hope.
Why the host started this series: to grow, and not alone.
Questions this series answers:
What is Christianese? Are common Christian phrases in the Bible? Why do Christians hide their struggles behind church language? How do we talk honestly about faith, sin and holiness without shame?
Content note: this episode briefly mentions pornography.

You're Not Loving Them — You're Begging Them
Have you ever done everything right — showed up, gave your all, bent yourself in half — and still felt unloved? That's not love. That's begging. And in this episode, Ayinke "The Skinny One" is calling it out.
We've all been there. Doing too much for people who do too little. Twisting ourselves into someone we're not just to feel accepted. But what if the problem isn't what you're giving — it's who you're giving it to?
Ayinke gets vulnerable in this one. She shares the moment she caught herself being the very person she swore she'd never become — and why it shook her. Because sometimes, without even realizing it, we become what hurt us.
This episode will make you rethink how you love, who you love, and most importantly — how much of yourself you're sacrificing in the process.
