About Slavery Unravelled - Conversations on being slavery free
We have more slaves in the world now than in any other point of history! How do you get to understand modern slavery and more importantly - what can you do about it. It's a shared responsibility and everybody has a role. Get to understand what it is and what your role could be.
Julia Ormond is an acclaimed actress, activist and the first UN Goodwill Ambassador against Trafficking and Slavery. As founder of ASSET Campaign and the source of the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act, she created the first game-changing global legislation legally requiring large companies trading in California to disclose what they are doing to prevent child and adult slavery, human trafficking and forced labour in their supply chains.
Through investigative trips to cocoa farming communities in Ghana, child fishing operations at Lake Volta and carpet weaving workshops in India, Julia has seen firsthand the human cost of global supply chains. Each time, she found herself asking the same question: is there any chance I'm buying this product? That question has driven her advocacy ever since.
A passionate believer in consumer power, Julia argues that every transaction is a vote for the kind of world we want. She sees rigorous, independent measurement and verified information as the most powerful tools available to drive systemic change, giving consumers, investors and companies alike the data they need to act with integrity.
She is a champion of the Chocolate Scorecard, calling it "one of the best scorings of a product in terms of social impact."

Heroes Among Us - Laura Murphy
Laura Murphy is a globally recognised expert on modern slavery and one of the leading voices on forced labour in the Uyghur region. A professor and seasoned researcher, she has spent two decades documenting the realities of forced labour across the world—from bonded labourers in India to trafficked youth in North America and exploited workers in West Africa. Her groundbreaking work on state‑imposed forced labour in Xinjiang has reshaped international understanding of how goods made under coercion flow through global supply chains. Known for centring survivor voices, Laura’s research exposes not only the mechanisms of exploitation but also the failures and politics within the anti‑trafficking sector itself. She is a powerful advocate for corporate accountability, strong legislation, and ethical procurement, urging governments and businesses alike to stop importing goods made with forced labour. Despite the complexity of the issues she tackles, Laura remains driven by hope—grounded in the resilience of survivors and her unwavering belief that oppressive systems can and must be dismantled.
