A British SLP in New Zealand Who Became A Kiwi SLP in Australia
In July 2026, I caught up with Rachel, an originally British and now also Kiwi SLP living and working in Melbourne, Australia.
In this episode, you’ll hear about Rachel’s move from the UK to New Zealand on a working holiday, which resulted in her becoming a New Zealand citizen, and then her move across the ditch from New Zealand to Australia, where she has lived for the past 20 years. You’ll also hear about Rachel’s work and research in clinical education.
SLPs Overseas is an independently produced podcast. I record, edit and publish episodes while working full-time as an SLP (and travelling, of course!) This podcast is fueled by coffee, and I am so grateful to Kim, Voon, The Marketed Clinician, Beth, Grace, and Sarah who bought me a coffee to show their support.

An Aussie SLP in Ireland (Cork)
In August 2026, I had a chat with Jules Sexton. Jules is a speech pathologist and business coach, currently based in Queensland, Australia. You’ve probably come across Jules’ work online as she’s well-known for her business coaching in Australia (and her very fun social media posts). But you might not know that she spent the first ten years of her speech pathology career in Ireland! 🇮🇪
In this episode, Jules shares her experience moving from Australia to Ireland as a new graduate speech pathologist, and returning to Australia over a decade later as a mum and business owner. She also shares what a business coach does and why allied health private practice owners should have one.
You can find Jules on Instagram @next_chapter_businesscoaching (https://www.instagram.com/next_chapter_businesscoaching/). You can listen to her podcast WTF Leadership: Cockups and Comebacks (https://open.spotify.com/show/0vOjZW1ity2XTHlJ7TCMdQ?si=5d8b1a231cb14e5b) on Spotify.
For listeners outside of Australia, there are a couple of local terms in this episode that you might not be familiar with. NDIS is the National Disability Insurance Scheme, a type of government funding for speech pathology (that is undergoing some major changes at the moment). And SPA is Speech Pathology Australia, the national association for the profession.

How To Get Irish Citizenship And An EU Passport
Do you consider yourself ‘a little bit Irish?’ Well, you might be eligible for Irish citizenship and, with that, the ever-attractive EU passport 🇪🇺.
Maybe you want to live, work or study in Ireland or in another EU country. Or maybe you want the privilege of using the EU citizens’ line at customs and immigration so you can smugly overtake the non-EU passport holders 🛂.
In this episode, I answer the questions:
Am I Irish?
If so, how do I make it official?
How do I get an Irish passport?
What does being Irish mean for my opportunities to live and work abroad?
Can I be Irish and keep my home country citizenship?
I also share my own experience of becoming an Irish citizen by descent 🇮🇪🍀.

My citizenship and passport timeline:
June 2020: I submitted my application to the FBR
July 2020: My documents were received in Dublin (but I was not notified about this)
October 2022: I reached out to the FBR Urgent Queries line to make sure they had received my documents 2+ years prior. They confirmed the documents were received in July 2020. They then asked me for additional information to support my application
November 2022: I got my additional information notarised by a lawyer in Australia and sent this to Dublin
mid-December 2022: I received an email congratulating me on being an Irish citizen 🇮🇪🍀🎉
late-December 2022: I received my original documents and my FBR certificate by mail
early January 2023: I sent my passport application to Dublin
A few weeks later, I had my passport in hand
