Horizon Aircraft's (Nasdaq: HOVR) CEO Brandon Robinson on Path to 2030 Deliveries
Horizon Aircraft (Nasdaq: HOVR) Co-Founder and CEO Brandon Robinson outlines the path to commercialization for the Cavorite X7. It's a hybrid-electric VTOL aircraft that takes off and lands like a helicopter and flies like a conventional airplane for about 98% of its mission.Much of the eVTOL industry is focused on shorter, high-frequency all-electric routes. Horizon is targeting faster, longer-range, all-weather routes of roughly 300 to 500 miles between cities. The Cavorite X7 combines Horizon's patented fan-in-wing technology with an onboard engine and generator, so it carries hundreds of pounds of batteries instead of thousands. Robinson describes its fuel source as 20 to 30 times more energy-dense than typical battery systems. He positions the aircraft as complementary to all-electric platforms from Joby, Archer and Beta, built by integrating technologies that are available today instead of relying on future breakthroughs. The Cavorite X7 targets ~250 mph speeds, a ~500-mile range and a useful load of up to 1,500 lbs, with operating costs of ~$0.97 per seat mile versus ~$4–$6 for comparable helicopters. Horizon has already demonstrated vertical takeoff, transition and forward flight with a large-scale prototype. It was one of five companies selected from ~250 applicants for the U.S. Air Force AFWERX High-Speed VTOL program.Horizon expects to roll out its full-scale prototype within six months for ground testing, followed by flight testing over the next 12 to 18 months. The company is pursuing certification through Transport Canada Civil Aviation, with potential FAA validation through bilateral agreements. It's building low-volume production capacity, with aircraft deliveries targeted for 2030.👉 Horizon Aircraft is a client of RedChip.
