Ep. 15 Shot Through The Heart & Ghosts To Blame: Love Triangles, Ghostly Brides, & The St. Valentine's Day Massacre

Love stories are supposed to end with happily ever after... but some never end at all. In this spooky Valentine's Day special, we are diving into the dark side of love and we're following a bride named Emily who made it to the bridge... but never made it home. Dressed in white and lost to mystery, her tragic death left behind more than heartbreak. Visitors say she still lingers in the darkness, waiting... watching... and maybe even trying to be seen. But she isn't the only one whose Valentine's Day ended in blood instead of roses. We're also talking about the ghosts of Cherry Hill and a love triangle that ended in the last public hanging in Albany, New York, as well as, stepping into the chilling aftermath of the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre - The brutal crime that shocked the nation and cemented Al Capone's deadly legacy in Chicago. Nearly a century later, people claim the victims never truly left, with phantom footsteps, shadow figures, a cursed brick wall, and an overall energy that refuses to rest. Because sometimes, love doesn't die. It lingers. It waits. And on certain bridges... and certain Valentine's Days... It comes back. Ep. 14 House Hunting From Hell: The Amityville Horror & Villisca Axe Murder Houses

Content Warning: This episode includes discussion of real-life violence and the murder of entire families (including children). Listener discretion is strongly advised. Some houses don't just creak... they remember. In this episode, we step inside the Amityville Horror House and the Villisca Axe Murder House - Two homes forever tied to real tragedy and decades of chilling paranormal claims. We talk hauntings, lingering energy, and why some places seem unable to let go of what happened inside their walls. These stories are heavy, but they matter. We approach them with care, respect, and just enough nervous laughter to get through the darkness together. Summary: This episode presents an in-depth exploration of two notorious murder scenes: the Amityville Horror House and the Villisca Axe Murder House. The Amityville Horror House, infamous for the brutal killings of the DeFeo family in 1974, is meticulously examined. Haley and Tammy recount the chilling details of Ronald DeFeo Jr.'s confession to murdering his family in the dead of night, highlighting the eerie circumstances that surrounded the crime. Following the murders, the Lutz family’s brief yet harrowing experience in the home adds another layer of complexity to the narrative, as they reported experiencing paranormal phenomena that ultimately forced them to abandon their residence after just 28 days. The episode dissects the subsequent media circus that ensued, questioning the authenticity of the Lutzes' claims while also considering the psychological impacts of living in such a historically fraught environment. Shifting focus to the Villisca Axe Murder House, Haley and Tammy recount the horrific events of June 9-10th 1912, when the Moore family and two friends were brutally slain in their home. The gruesome details are recounted, including the ritualistic nature of the murders, which left a permanent scar on the small town of Villisca. Haley and Tammy discuss various theories surrounding the identity of the perpetrator, including the possibility of a deranged individual or a more organized hit, drawing connections to the broader societal implications of such violent acts in the early 20th century. This segment of the episode also addresses the legacy of the Villisca house, its restoration efforts, and the paranormal experiences reported by modern visitors, creating a narrative that intertwines historical reality with supernatural lore, ultimately engaging the audience in a contemplation of the true nature of evil and its lasting impact on communities. Ep. 13 The Mystery of Mothman: Big Wings & Bad Vibes

Flapping in at 10 feet tall with glowing red eyes and absolutely no respect for personal space, this week on Smells Like Seen Spirit we talk all about the Mothman! We deep dive into the eerie origins of Point Pleasant's most ominous winged cryptid, his suspicious habit of predicting disasters, and why seeing him is basically the paranormal equivalent of a "bad things are coming" group text. Is Mothman a protector? A harbinger of doom? Or just a misunderstood flying menace with terrible timing? Grab your flashlight, avoid bridges, and join this mother-daughter duo as we laugh, scream, and respectfully ask Mothman to stay several counties away from us. Takeaways: The Mothman is described as a large humanoid creature with glowing red eyes and massive wings, often seen before a tragedy occurs. Sightings of Mothman in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, peaked between 1966 and 1967, coinciding with various ominous events in the area. Some believe the Mothman is a cryptid or a demonic entity, while others speculate it could be an alien or interdimensional being. The legend of Mothman is tied to the collapse of the Silver Bridge in 1967, where many locals reported seeing the creature just before the disaster. Reports indicate that Mothman has been sighted before numerous disasters worldwide, including earthquakes and nuclear incidents, suggesting a possible harbinger role. The Mothman Festival in Point Pleasant attracts visitors annually, celebrating the creature and its lore with various activities and attractions. Ep. 7 Exploring the Haunting Traditions of Samhain and Their Influence on Halloween

The episode delves into the historical significance of Samhain, which served as a precursor to contemporary Halloween celebrations. We explore the origins of various Halloween traditions, including the association of witches and black cats with this time of year, the practice of "trick or treat," and the carving of pumpkins. Through an examination of ancient rituals and their transformation within modern pop culture, we illuminate the interplay between the sacred and the commercial aspects of the holiday. Our discussion also touches upon the folklore surrounding Samhain, including the mystical creatures believed to roam during this time. Ultimately, we aim to provide a deeper understanding of how these traditions have evolved and continue to shape our contemporary celebrations of Halloween. The episode provides an insightful exploration of Halloween's origins, tracing its roots back to the Celtic festival of Samhain. Celebrated on the night of October 31st, Samhain was a time of harvest, marking the end of the growing season, and was rich with spiritual significance. The Celts believed that on this night, the boundary between the physical world and the spirit realm was diminished, allowing the souls of the deceased to return. Rituals during Samhain included the lighting of bonfires and the wearing of disguises to protect against wandering spirits. As we dissect various customs associated with this ancient festival, we also examine how the arrival of Christianity transformed Samhain into Halloween, integrating elements of trick-or-treating, costumes, and the symbolism of black cats and pumpkins, which have become synonymous with the holiday. Takeaways: The episode delves into the origins of Halloween, tracing its roots back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, celebrated by the Celts, primarily in Ireland, the United Kingdom, Scotland, and northern France. Listeners are introduced to various rituals and traditions associated with Samhain, including the lighting of ceremonial bonfires, wearing costumes to ward off spirits, and leaving food offerings for wandering souls. The transformation of Samhain into modern Halloween is explored, detailing how Christian practices, such as All Saints' Day, were integrated into the pre-existing customs of the pagan festival. The podcast discusses the significance of various symbols associated with Halloween, such as black cats, pumpkins, and the concept of the veil between the worlds being thinned during this time of year. A fascinating tale of 'Stingy Jack' is recounted, explaining the origins of the Jack O' Lantern, which serves as a cultural reference point for listeners regarding Halloween decorations. The episode concludes with a reflection on modern adaptations of Samhain practices, encouraging listeners to honor their ancestors and engage in introspective rituals during the Halloween season.
