Smoke & Soul Project

About Smoke & Soul Project

Dave Meadows has spent years using his passion for low-and-slow BBQ to give back to the community. Through his work with organisations such as St Vincent de Paul’s Fred’s Van in Adelaide, he has provided hearty, home cooked meals to people experiencing homelessness and hardship. Each event is entirely self-funded and operated. Dave supplies his own smokers, BBQs, fuel, rubs, sauces, and serving equipment, ensuring there is no cost to the charities he partners with. His signature BBQ boxes, featuring smoky brisket, pulled pork, chilli beans, and comforting sides, have become a welcome highlight for those he serves, offering not just nourishment but dignity, warmth, and a sense of community. The SMOKE & SOUL PROJECT builds on this foundation of service, expanding it into a eight week national BBQ tour across Australia. Dave, together with his wife and two young daughters, will travel with a custom BBQ trailer to partner with local charities and serve free BBQ meals to people in need. The project is about more than food, it's about connection, compassion, and shining a light on the issue of homelessness in communities both big and small. By bringing people together around the BBQ, the Smoke & Soul Project creates moments of comfort, dignity, and hope, while raising awareness of the importance of supporting those most vulnerable in society.

   Welcome Home!

After 59 days, 18 food services, and 1,400 meals cooked and served for those in need across the Eastern states, Dave, Cara and the girls are home. This Welcome Home episode was recorded in person, a first for the three of us. You'll hear Dave and Cara reflect on the trip: where their commitment to community first came from, how their expectations shifted over the two months, their appreciation for everyone who supported them along the way, how they held up as a family, and what they're taking from the experience now that they're back. Dave and Cara speak openly about what they saw and who they met on the trip, and share some genuinely moving moments for both of them. Week 3 - Another wet week on the road to Wagga Wagga (NSW) + Canberra (ACT)

Week 3 and it's been another wet week on the road! Dave & Cara cooked and served in Wagga Wagga, NSW and Canberra ACT, with Vinnies being their local charity partner in both towns. To date the Smoke & Soul Project has delivered just under 700 meals to people sleeping rough and to people in need. One takeaway from the first three weeks, is that in each town, each charity partner is seeing an increased demand for their services. In some towns, the demand is doubling every year.
