You know, James Madison, one of the founding fathers of the US said, you know, a popular government without popular information is a prelude to a farce or a tragedy or both. And what he meant was exactly this point. If we are going to have our own government in America, then we need to also have systems of quality news to get them information so they can make informed opinions. My contention is that because we have migrated our town square onto social media, And because social media is not a level playing field between good information and bad information or healthy information and harmful information, then it makes direct democracy really hard in the same way that it makes non-direct our traditional democracy really hard.
