Chapter 11: The Fire of the Petro Lwa
Solène and the other students step into a new realm of Vodou, invoking the Petro lwa—the spirits of fire, revolution, and raw power. Unlike the calm, nurturing presence of the Rada spirits, the Petro lwa burn with intensity, demanding respect and offering strength only to those who can withstand their fire.
The ceremony begins with Ezili Dantor, the fierce protector of women and children, whose presence fills Solène with a sense of unbreakable love and vengeance. The air thickens with heat as Met Kalfu, the master of the crossroads, is called, bringing an eerie stillness that hints at the dangers of unrestrained power. Finally, Ogoun, the warrior spirit, arrives with the force of a storm, his energy charging the space with the unyielding fire of battle and survival.
The night after the ritual, Solène dreams of a burning forest, with Ogoun standing at its center, watching her, testing her resolve. She is then transported to the crossroads, where Met Kalfu waits, keys in hand, offering a choice she knows will define her journey. The fire of the Petro lwa has been ignited within her—but whether it will forge her into something stronger or consume her entirely remains unknown.

Chapter 10: La Sirène
Solène finds herself standing at the edge of an endless ocean, drawn by the haunting melody of La Sirène, the mystical sea goddess known for her beauty, magic, and unpredictable nature. Rising from the water, La Sirène appears both mesmerizing and dangerous, holding a mirror that reflects not just Solène’s face but a version of herself that feels unfamiliar. The sea goddess offers the mirror as both a gift and a test, warning Solène that the ocean gives as much as it takes.
Caught in the spell of La Sirène’s song, Solène steps deeper into the water, feeling the immense power of the sea pulling at her. Just as she begins to lose herself in its embrace, she jolts awake—only to find a silver comb, wet with seawater, lying beside her bed. The dream was more than a vision; it was a crossing between worlds. La Sirène had come to her, and she had left a token behind.

As Solène chants, she feels the calming embrace of the lwa, temporarily lifting the weight of the darkness that lingers in her mind.
However, even as the spirits of light offer guidance and peace, a shadow lurks at the edges of her consciousness. That night, she dreams of an endless ocean, where a haunting melody calls to her, leading her toward a mysterious figure rising from the depths. Though the Rada spirits have brought tranquility, Solène senses that the balance is still fragile—and something unknown is waiting for her beyond the waves.
