From the Pit to the Big Stage: Making It as a Concert Photographer with Charlie Pief

This week, we’re joined by concert photographer Charlie Pief, who went from fangirl to shooting some of the biggest artists on stage. She spills on what it takes to break into an industry built on networking and nepotism—especially when you’re not based in a major city—plus the importance of mentorship, the rise of women in a traditionally male-dominated field, and her dream artists to shoot. She’s worked with some of your faves, and she’s got the stories to prove it. --- Follow Sumi and Sheyda on socials!: You can find Someone in the Crowd on TikTok (https://www.tiktok.com/@someoneinthecrowdpodcast?_t=ZG-8svDVhQ8MV7&_r=1) and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/someoneinthecrowdpodcast?igsh=MXRodHhxZzV4MnJ4cA==), and follow Sumi and Sheyda on their personal accounts for more behind-the-scenes fun and updates: Sumi onTikTok (https://www.tiktok.com/@sumimrk?_t=ZG-8svDPULqM4X&_r=1) andInstagram (https://www.instagram.com/sumimrkulic?igsh=MXRhejR6czg4Z2Vh&utm_source=qr), and Sheyda on TikTok (https://www.tiktok.com/@sheydaps?_t=ZG-8svDObpjbWa&_r=1) and Instagram (https://www.tiktok.com/@sheydaps?_t=ZG-8svDObpjbWa&_r=1). Oscars 2025: Robberies, Snubs & Straight-Up Nonsense

The 2025 Oscars nominations just dropped, and we have THOUGHTS. Did Kieran Culkin actually act in A Real Pain, or was he just being himself? Why is Emilia Perez even here (and how did it become the worst-rated Best Picture nominee ever on Letterboxd)? Meanwhile, Challengers was completely robbed, Dune 2 deserved way more love, and we’re officially starting a campaign for Timothée Chalamet’s first Oscar. Oh, and can we talk about how AI needs to stay FAR away from cinema (side-eyeing The Brutalist)? From Blockbusters to Bitesize: We Forgot How to Pay Attention

At this point, we genuinely don’t know how to watch a movie without checking our phones every five minutes. But is that just us, or have attention spans collectively crumbled? This week, we’re spiraling about how modern media has completely rewired the way we consume stories—from why limited series feel easier to commit to than a 2.5-hour film, to the endless cycle of franchise reboots that keep us from ever having to learn about new characters. Have we broken our ability to focus? Are we witnessing the end of original stories? Or are we just products of the algorithm industrial complex? Either way, no need to concentrate too hard—we’ve already done the overthinking for you. --- Follow Sumi and Sheyda on socials!: You can find Someone in the Crowd on TikTok (https://www.tiktok.com/@someoneinthecrowdpodcast?_t=ZG-8svDVhQ8MV7&_r=1) and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/someoneinthecrowdpodcast?igsh=MXRodHhxZzV4MnJ4cA==), and follow Sumi and Sheyda on their personal accounts for more behind-the-scenes fun and updates: Sumi onTikTok (https://www.tiktok.com/@sumimrk?_t=ZG-8svDPULqM4X&_r=1) andInstagram (https://www.instagram.com/sumimrkulic?igsh=MXRhejR6czg4Z2Vh&utm_source=qr), and Sheyda on TikTok (https://www.tiktok.com/@sheydaps?_t=ZG-8svDObpjbWa&_r=1) andInstagram (https://www.tiktok.com/@sheydaps?_t=ZG-8svDObpjbWa&_r=1). Hi Barbie! Are we in our Girlhood era? 🎀 Pop culture’s new wave of feminism

First, we wore pink for Barbie. Then, we swapped friendship bracelets at the Eras Tour. Now, everything is girl—girl math, girl dinner, girl trends. But is this the best thing to happen to feminism, or are we just turning it into an aesthetic? Is this an awakening for girls around the world, or another source of marketable content? In this episode, we break down how Greta Gerwig’s success, TikTok’s obsession with girlhood, the ever-growing female communities formed through fandoms & fan practices, as well as the backlash against Wicked, reveal both the power and the pitfalls of digital feminism. From reclaiming girlhood to the rise of girl-coded everything, we’re asking: Are we actually in our feminism era? --- Follow Sumi and Sheyda on socials!: You can find Someone in the Crowd on TikTok (https://www.tiktok.com/@someoneinthecrowdpodcast?_t=ZG-8svDVhQ8MV7&_r=1) and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/someoneinthecrowdpodcast?igsh=MXRodHhxZzV4MnJ4cA==), and follow Sumi and Sheyda on their personal accounts for more behind-the-scenes fun and updates: Sumi on TikTok (https://www.tiktok.com/@sumimrk?_t=ZG-8svDPULqM4X&_r=1) and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/sumimrkulic?igsh=MXRhejR6czg4Z2Vh&utm_source=qr), and Sheyda on TikTok (https://www.tiktok.com/@sheydaps?_t=ZG-8svDObpjbWa&_r=1) and Instagram (https://www.tiktok.com/@sheydaps?_t=ZG-8svDObpjbWa&_r=1). Cancel Culture is Broken: The Internet’s Toxic Hobby

In the second episode of Someone in the Crowd, Sheyda and Sumi break down the complexities of cancel culture—when it works, when it doesn’t, and how it often prevents people from genuinely learning and growing from their mistakes. We delve into the double standards of public outrage, exploring how women and people of color are disproportionately impacted, and question why society holds celebrities to higher standards than those in their personal lives. Plus, we examine the voyeuristic side of cancel culture and its unexpected role in shaping modern parasocial relationships.
