So when you have a minimum wage set, there are an awful lot of trade unions that have their wages set as a benchmark against the minimum wage. And this is one of the driving forces behind the trade union movement wanting to increase the minimum wage. They couldn't give a hoot. about people on the minimum wage because the vast majority of them are not in trade unions, but they do have pay agreements which link the minimum wage to their own members pay. So when the minimum wage goes up automatically, the wages of people who have links in trade union movements to the minimum wage, their wages go up. […]
