About Something Wild
Something Wild has been exploring the wonder of the landscape that surrounds us in New Hampshire for over 25 years! From the many birds that call our state home, to the trees around New Hampshire that have been granted "Big Tree" status, to stone walls that punctuate the state, we explain the behavior and science behind what we see and hear (and might take for granted) in our backyards. Something Wild is hosted by Dave Anderson and Grace McCulloch, and is produced by Jessica Hunt. This program is made by New Hampshire Public Radio, in partnership with the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, and the New Hampshire Audubon.

[…] I was really attracted to the work of Margot Glass. She makes her own ink out of black walnuts that she forages, and she joined us in the Something Wild studio. The color varies a little bit depending on the seasons and the years and the weather, and that's been kind of interesting to me. I love working with this ink because it's so rich and dark. It smells great. It's like aromatherapy when I'm working with it. The husks of the black walnuts can stain your hands for weeks, and then she uses those to make ink. It was her dandelions that I was drawn to. She has a lot of respect for plants of all kinds, and that includes things like weeds and invasives, dandelions, garlic mustard, and thistle. […]
