Fewer Friends, More Depth: The Evolution of Midlife Circles
What happens when you reach your 40s and realize your circle looks nothing like you thought it would?
In this episode of Soulful Sips & Real Talk with Dakiya, I'm getting real about the evolution of friendship in midlife—when having more people around you starts to matter less, and having the right people starts to mean everything.
We're talking about the shedding that happens as we grow, friendships that quietly fade without a dramatic ending, the emotional weight Black women often carry, and why our energy becomes too valuable to keep pouring into one-sided connections.
Grab your coffee, tea, or whatever's filling your cup today, and join me for an honest conversation about fewer friends, deeper connections, and the beauty of realizing that quality will always matter more than quantity. ✨ Stay Connected🎙 Listen Anywhere

Smiles, Shade & Silent Competition
Have you ever shared good news with a friend, only to walk away wondering why the support didn’t quite feel like support?
In this episode of Soulful Sips & Real Talk with Dakiya, we’re having an honest conversation about the things that can quietly show up in our friendships—comparison, insecurity, subtle shade, and silent competition nobody really wants to admit exists.
From the perspective of a Black woman navigating friendship in her 40s, Dakiya gets real about recognizing when something feels off, checking our own hearts, celebrating other women without measuring our lives against theirs, and learning what genuine sisterhood should feel like in this season. Her season is her season. Your season is your season.
So grab your coffee or tea. Pull up a seat, and let’s talk about smiles, shade, silent competition—and the kind of sisterhood worth protecting.

Let’s Talk About Friendship in Our 40s — Real, Honest, and Grown.
Friendship hits a little differently in your 40s.
The conversations may be quieter, the check-ins less frequent, and the friendships you once thought would always look the same may begin to shift. But with those changes also comes clarity about what friendship truly means to you now.
In this Season 2 opener, Dakiya gets real about the evolution of friendship—from the carefree connections of our 20s and the life changes of our 30s to the more intentional sisterhood we begin to crave in our 40s.
We’re talking about the “midlife friendship gap,” recognizing mutual effort, paying attention to the connections that still feel genuine, and learning that you don’t have to chase or force a friendship to prove that it matters.
Because maybe friendship in our 40s isn’t about having everything figured out.
Maybe it’s about finally understanding what we need from one another—and appreciating the people who genuinely choose to meet us there.
So grab your coffee, your tea, or whatever is filling your cup today, and pull up a seat.
It’s time for some real, honest, grown-woman talk about friendship.

Taking Up Space: No Apologies!
By the time you reach your 40s, something powerful begins to shift—the unnecessary guilt starts to fade, and the weight of shrinking to make others comfortable no longer fits. This episode is for every Black woman who’s ready to release the need for permission and step boldly into her own presence.
We’ll explore what it truly means to live unapologetically:
☕ Owning your voice—even when it makes others uncomfortable
☕ Releasing the cultural conditioning of always making room for everyone else
☕ Embracing radical self-love as liberation
☕ Taking up space with joy, rest, and peace—without apology
This is more than self-talk. It’s cultural resonance. It’s reclaiming our right to be fully seen, fully human, and fully ourselves.
So grab your coffee or tea, love, and let’s step into this season together—unapologetic, radiant, and free. 🖤👑

Living Without the Hustle: Peace Is the New Normal.
In this episode, we examine how embracing the 'soft life' allows Black women in their 40s to challenge hustle culture and the 'strong Black woman' narrative. Instead, we claim peace, rest, and joy as our new normal. Together, we’ll explore:
*What does the soft life truly mean
* How it challenges the generational burden of “strength” placed on Black women
* The deep benefits of rest, joy, and intentional living
* Misconceptions about the soft life and why it’s really about inner peace
* Practical ways to start living softer, right now, in your 40s
Sis, strength doesn’t mean carrying it all. Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is put the bags down, breathe, and choose peace. You are worthy of ease. You are worthy of joy. You are worthy of softness.

Still Here, Still Her!
This episode is a little different—and deeply personal.
In this special spoken word performance, Dakiya shares a poetic love note to every Black woman navigating her 40s: the grief, the joy, the confusion, the clarity. Through powerful language and heartfelt reflection, Still Here, Still Her honors what it means to evolve, release, and reclaim yourself—especially when the world has expected you to stay small and silent.
After the poem, Dakiya unpacks the emotional stages many women experience in this season of life—awakening, grieving, releasing, reclaiming, and becoming.
If you’ve ever asked yourself, “Who am I now?” or felt the growing pains of shifting into a new version of yourself, this episode will remind you:
You’re not behind.
You’re not broken.
You are still here.
And you are still HER.
