Why Does Anime Sound So Good? | Dietrich Dice, Game Audio Sound Designer, and the Power of Bold Simplicity
Meet Dietrich Dice. He starts basic. Ends epic.
Ever wonder why the swoosh of an anime sword or dramatic entrances of anime characters sound incredibly satisfying? Dietrich Dice knows what game audio can learn from anime’s distinctive sonic world.
Drawing on his professional game-audio work, including Fortnite and Resident Evil 4, Dice shares how studying anime has influenced his own creative process. With an ear for what elevates action, emotion, and even comedy, he explores the power of simplicity and how pushing a sound to its limits can make what we hear when we play much more memorable.

Are We Vibing? Feel the Music to Make the Music: Mia Fanelli, Inventor of OHLA, a Haptic Technology for Accessible Audio Mixing and Gaming
By translating frequencies into immersive tactile feedback, Mia Fanelli is reimagining how we experience sound—and helping break down sensory barriers along the way.
Mia, a neurodivergent inventor and solo developer, is the creator of the Opto-Haptic Linear Attenuator (OHLA) and founder of OHLA LLC.
While OHLA functions as a global translation framework that can be applied to any continuous frequency signal, Mia's vision for the technology is deeply personal: to transform how we interact with sound and expand access to musical and sonic experiences for neurodivergent people and beyond.

Maritime Travel: The Crossing | 3D Soundscape by Angela Brumett, Sound Designer
Content Warning
A sudden, diesel backfire resembling two pistol shots occurs at approximately 0:49.
Hello to my dear listeners!
This is Angie, your host. In honor of the annual Whaling Days in Puget Sound this weekend, I have a gift to share with all of you.
Close your eyes and come with me.
Imagine a place where seaworthy vessels and marine wild life travel underwater, across the water, and through the sky. Whales and porpoises—tugboats and trollers—herons and gulls—cross paths peacefully.
What if YOU could be there—EVERYWHERE?
Puget Sound is a deep matrix with a life of its own—it breathes. Some vibrations carry through the water—others dissolve into a padded hush, yielding to a stillness so complete, it hums.
Listening Note
Please use high-quality headphones in a quiet space to experience the full immersion intended here, including the moments of "silence.”
Thank you very much for listening. Enjoy.

Final Journey to Christmas: Soundscape by Jan Rouvillain
The year is coming to a close. Take a moment to relax. Close your eyes. Surrender to a fleeting moment, both eerie and enchanting.
A legendary steam locomotive departs—then arrives, completing the final leg of its Christmas tour, the gentle murmurs of the wind, birds, and falling snow in the surrounding forest filling the brief gap.
Bound for the beloved Christmas market, the train travels from central to eastern Jutland, between Bryrup and Vrads on the Veteran Railway—also known as "Denmark’s Most Beautiful Railway."
Note: Please use high quality headphones in a quiet space to experience the full immersion intended here, including the moments of "silence."
Recorded, ambient silence isn't "true silence"; it's full of texture. Winter’s quiet isn’t empty—it breathes. Snowflakes drift and disappear into the padded hush, their sound swallowed before it can travel. It’s a stillness so complete, it almost hums.

Are Your Ears Open? Aly Burridge, Sound Effect Designer for Animation
This is Aly Burridge. She has the job you wish you had.
When it comes to an up and coming sound designer for animated media, Aly is THE ONE to watch for—or should we say listen to?
Aly has a brilliantly promising career in sound that's moving at the speed of light. Her most recent work includes pilots for Pretty Pretty Please, I Don't Want to Be a Magical Girl (https://youtu.be/zf7bsmT-Jn0?si=ZmurYhJPeSMrkaY-) and Dungeon Flippers (https://youtu.be/3NjbEw8khww?si=MkMnDzttdM4SGjtk)
Aly sees sounds and hears colors. That's because her brain works differently: It's called synesthesia. Among Aly's favorite sounds are silence (yes, that's right, using silence well sets a sound designer apart) and sounds "that come from nothing but they work!"
She's so excited to tell us all about these things, and we're here for it.
Aly also has a deep passion for "uplifting other women and nonbinary/gender-expansive folks in audio and bringing more accessibility into the industry." Just another reason she's way cooler than the rest of us.
