There's nothing like a little friendly competition, right? The danger is when our competition with one another strays away from fun and games and is rooted in selfish ego, unnecessary comparison, and carelessness toward others.
As we enter into our next section of Mark's gospel, we are presented with Jesus humbly announcing his oncoming death for a second time. It is something which he endures because He knows what will come as a result, and because He is a servant to the glory of God and greater good of humanity. However, the pride of the disciples stands in stark contrast to the humility which Jesus is prepared to embody.
Rather than boasting in ourselves, we must determine to receive the humble Christ who died for our sin and shame, and to follow in His footsteps.

Mark 9:14-29 - "Help!"
Modern advancements in knowledge and technology can tempt us to think that, in the near future, nothing will be impossible for the man to accomplish. However, at the end of the day, we are still human and God is still God. We may create all sorts of products, positions, and possibilities... but we are not the Creator.
As we continue into our next section in Mark's Gospel, we are reminded how there are just some tasks too big, some powers too strong, and some needs too great for us to meet in our own strength. We need the assistance and provision of another. Thankfully, God and His Son stand ready to help us when we cry out to Him in faith.
Thankfully, He is even able to help us in doing that by granting us more faith than we can muster up within ourselves. When our faith is weak, God is strong. When our faith is frail, Jesus does not fail us. We can simply express our faith and need by way of prayer, knowing that He will answer.

Mark 9:2-13 - Jesus Unveiled
There are some memories which never leave you, whether good, bad, or... holy? As we continue forward into the second half of Mark's gospel, we come across what is a somewhat confusing but rather significant moment and scene in the life of the disciples. After being confronted on their lack of perception, some of Jesus' closest followers are graciously permitted to behold him in his fullness, even if just for a moment, being given a sneak peek into his glory, his divinity, and his holiness.
They recognize Jesus as someone far greater than they could've ever dreamed, and as one to whom all of scripture was pointing all along. How this could be, they don't exactly know. How it looks moving forward, they aren't sure... but they do know one thing - they must continue to follow Him as the Son of God and Savior of man, all the while, trusting that what He says is true.
We are urged to do the same in response to Mark's testimony of this sacred moment.
